The Pinecone | April 2020 • 3 • welcome to 3535 Kirby Road • Memphis, TN 38115 Carmen Smith was born in Santiago de Cuba and moves to Kirby Pines from Germantown, Tennessee. She was married for 40 years, has two children and two grandchildren. She earned her Masters Degree in social work – clinical and administrative from Barry University, located in Miami Shores, Florida. She worked 40+ years for Tennessee Child & Family Services through Methodist Hospital. In her career, she is most proud of being an Advocate for Elderly Social Services in West Tennessee. Carmen enjoys music and the fine arts. Her favorite book is the Bible, though she does have a nice collection of books, and she very much enjoys the music of Beethoven. Her favorite family recipe is Arroz con Pollo (chicken and rice) and family tradition was spending summers at the beach. Carmen has traveled to the Carribbean Islands, Europe and to most states in the US. She describes herself as strong, polite, charitable and flexible. Working so many years in social services, I'm sure we can agree. We are happy and delighted that Carmen has decided to be part of our Kirby Pines family. Hopefully, she has already acclimated to her new surroundings and has made new friends. Enjoy, Carmen, and welcome home. Carmen Smith Rel & Duck Morgan Relbue (Rel) and Elizabeth (Duck), come to Kirby Pines from their previius residence in Oakland, Tennessee. They have been married for 44 years. Rel spent his career of 34 years as a Professor, Department Head and Dean at Christian Brothers. Duck owned and operated, Serendipity, a successful small gift shop for ten years. Rel enjoys Antique Clock Repair and is a member of the National Association of Watch and Clock Collectors. He also likes cars and computers. Duck enjoys antiques and collects tea caddy spoons. Thay have traveled to Bermuda, Jamaica and Hawaii, and around the US, including San Francisco, NewYork and New England. Rel is described as "industrious", while is Duck, "friendly and loyal". Sounds like the perfect pair for our community. We are so glad they have chosen Kirby Pines for their home and we hope they enjoy all we have to offer, including friendship. Diane Mullins Diane Mullins was born in Chicago, Illinois, but comes to us from her home in Germantown, Tennessee. She and her late husband, Billy, were married 68 years, with three sons (one deceased), six grandchildren and eight great grands. She attended Memphis State and became a homemaker when the kids were young. She eventually worked 20 years as a Girl Friday for A to Z Insurance Agency, a company owned by her husband, Billy. While working, she became involved in community theater. This led to acting in movies and commercials. She also worked 10 years for UT as a "patient" for the medical students. On top of all that, she sang with the Sweet Adelines for 25 years. Billy qualified for "award trips" through his business, so they traveled extensively throughout the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. Diane used to collect Norman Rockwell items, but has given it up. She now enjoys playing bridge, shopping and having lunch with friends. Please welcome Diane to Kirby Pines with open arms. She sounds like a perfect fit for the Ham-ateurs and/or Entertainers. So introduce yourself when you see her and make her feel at home. Content Created Prior to COVID-19 Outbreak
