The Pinecone | April 2021 • 3 • welcome to 3535 Kirby Road • Memphis, TN 38115 New Resident Bios written by resident, Peggy Gatlin Elizabeth Pell moved to Kirby Pines in early January, 2021, she felt like it was already home since she had many friends from her church, Christ United Methodist, living here. Born in Jackson, Tennessee, Elizabeth moved to Mem- phis after graduating from Louisiana College and a earn- ing a Master’s Degree in Bio-Chemistry from Louisiana State University in 1961. She began her career at St. Jude Children’s Hospital as a research technologist shortly after making her move to Memphis. Elizabeth considers her greatest accomplish- ment, working at St Jude for 50 years. She retired as a Senior Research Technologist. It must be very reward- ing to know she worked all those years striving closer to finding a cure for cancer. Elizabeth’s friends describe her as dependable and faithful. She enjoys reading and writing poetry, knit- ting, music, and theater. As a writer of poetry, Elizabeth was named “The Poet Laureate” by the Poetry Society of Tennessee. Going to the Canada Expo in 1969 and a trip to see beautiful San Antonio in 1968 are the most memorable travel experiences Elizabeth has had. Elizabeth is enjoying her new home, especially the li- brary. She found a book that noted her accomplishments. She’ll certainly be an asset to the poetry group. We are happy Elizabeth has chosen Kirby Pines for this chapter of her life. Extend her a welcoming heart and make her feel at home.
