Karen earned her undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Memphis and later her Masters from the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology at Palo Alto, California. In 1989, The University of Memphis awarded Karen the Special Project Award for her study of “The Synthesis of East and West Philosophies.” Karen and Timothy enjoyed traveling together throughout most of North America including Canada. She enjoys collecting good books, especially biographies and classic movies. Her friends describe Karen as social and a fun person with a serious side. Receiving her graduate degree and joys of her family are Karen’s proudest accomplishments. She was also instrumental in the rewriting of the docent manual for the Fontaine House here in Memphis. Ka r en F r eeman J ean Fo r t une One of our newest residents, Jean Fortune, moved to Kirby Pines from Collierville, Tennessee. She and her late husband, Wain, had a son, Phil. Raising her son is her proudest accomplishment and he has brought much joy to her life. Jean was an insurance underwriter for Holiday Inns for 15 years. For enjoyment, Jean plays bridge and canasta. She is also a fan of country music and her favorite holiday is Christmas. She should enjoy Kirby Pines’ many Christmas festivities, this being her first Christmas at Kirby. Also, she is a University of Memphis football and basketball fan. She’ll find many U of M fans here to share the excitement of their sporting events. Traveling to China was her favorite trip but she also experienced many trips to other parts of the world. On her many trips, she collected rocks as memories and keepsakes. We are happy to have Jean as a new resident at Kirby Pines.
