In February, we can celebrate by
welcoming in the Chinese Lunar New
Year 4711 - theYear of the Horse. Unlike
western calendars, the Chinese calendar
has names that are repeated every 60
years. 2014 is the year of the Green
Horse. It is a wood horse. The Chinese
New Year, 2014, is expected to usher in
a promising year filled with cheerful,
bold and imaginative ideas, along with
another year of economic prosperity.
As we transition into the Year of the
Horse, times may appear to be unsteady
because the pine tree is the horse’s
symbol. However, this appearance of
being unsteady is actually a good thing,
as a pine tree has the ability to sway back
and forth and still come back to a sturdy
upright position.
One of the characteristics of theGreen
Horse is his inquisitive mind, always
questioning the state of the world; and
because of the wood influence, the Green
Horse has more patience, understanding
and the ability to plan. The Horse’s
earthly branch is the element of “fire”.
Fire added to wood makes a brighter
blaze. Therefore, the Green Horse has
a dazzling, intelligent and powerful
personality, allowing the green horse to
obtain success.
Some of the more famous people
born under the Horse are James Dean,
Ella Fitzgerald, Clint Eastwood, Sandra
Day O’Conner and President Teddy
Chinese New Year
a t K i r b y P i n e s
Roosevelt. If you were born in 1918 you
are a Yellow Horse, and if you were born
in 1930 you are a White Horse, and in
1942
a Black Horse. No matter which
horse you were born under, all those
born under the year of a horse are said
to be cheerful, popular and fun loving.
Possessing a sunny disposition and
natural charm, Horse finds people and
crowds exciting and loves parties.
In February we also celebrate
Valentine’s Day. If you have not bought
your Valentine cards, you still have time
to do so in the BlossomShop. Valentine’s
Day is not only a time to celebrate your
one true love, but the love you have for
friends and family as well. Also, it is one
of the few days when you can eat all the
chocolate candy you want to, and no one
will say anything about it!
Wishing you happiness, prosperity,
and a Happy Valentine’s Day.
