The Pinecone | May 2019 • 3 • welcome to 3535 Kirby Road • Memphis, TN 38115 All new resident bios are written by Peggy Reynolds Gatlin, Kirby Pines Resident You’ll want to meet our new resident, Carolyn Lifland. You’ll recognize her quickly when you see her with her close companion, Ginger. Carolyn and Ginger moved to Kirby in March from their former home in Richmond, Kentucky. Ginger is an eighty pound, five-year-old Golden Retriever. Carolyn says she and Ginger have adjusted quite well to their new home. After going to the University of Florida and Eastern Kentucky University, Carolyn graduated in 1980 with a M.S. Degree. She taught Middle School social studies for 17 years in Madison County, Kentucky. Carolyn is the proud mother of two sons, Steven and Jonathan, and grandmother to three granddaughters, Rachel, Anna and Zoe. Her immediate family lives in Atlanta and Washington D.C. so her brother-in-law, Jim, and two nieces have introduced her to the adventures of her new hometown, Memphis, Tennessee. Traveling has brought much joy to Carolyn, she has traveled throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. Her favorite destinations were Scotland and Portugal. Carolyn will quickly tell you that keeping up with Ginger is all she needs to stay active. She is enjoying playing Bridge and Mahjong here at Kirby, also. You’ll certainly want to get acquainted with Carolyn and Ginger. Give them a warm friendly welcome and share with them our beautiful Kirby Pines Retirement Community’s campus and enrichment activities. Ca r o l yn L i f l and Lo r a A r cud i After living for several years at The Villages in Florida, Lora Arcudi has chosen Kirby Pines for the next chapter of her retirement life. She had a career as a dental assistant for 44 years. When her longtime employer took retirement, she followed his example and also retired. And, what a retirement she has had. She has traveled to England, Italy, Russia and Spain. Italy was her favorite destination. Besides traveling, she has enjoyed golf, bowling, reading and going to movies. The mother of three daughters, Lynn, Donna, and Jane. Lora also has four grandchildren and three great grands. Lynn lives in Irvine, California and Jane lives in Boston, Massachusetts (great travel destinations) but Donna lives close by in Germantown. Lora listed ribs as her favorite food, she certainly chose the best place for ribs when she decided to move to Memphis. She likes to dance and she will find our monthly dances are most enjoyable for making new friends and listening to good “oldies but goodies” music. Lora is already enjoying many new friends here at Kirby. Make it a priority to meet this friendly energetic lady and invite her to get involved in our many opportunities to volunteer and continue to enjoy her active retirement at her beautiful new home.
