The Pinecone | April 2021 • 15 • Apr 9: Music with Big Barton Big Barton is a Memphis, TN band that plays classic country and western mu- sic from the 1930s-60s, including songs from artists such as Hank Williams, Pat- sy Cline, Ernest Tubb, and Johnny Cash that will bring you back to the golden era of Nashville’s WSM radio. Fronted by Jeremy Shrader (NewMemphis Hep- cats, Mighty Souls Brass Band), who sings lead vocals and rhythm guitar, and Adam Holton (Mister Adams, Cotton and Coal), on vocal harmonies, lead vo- cals and bass, the band features some of the Memphis area’s best musicians. Join them for this foot stomping good time at 6:00 pm in PAC & Live TV 10. Apr 10 & 24: Saturday Trivia The Kirby Pines Trivia Group meets at 6:15 pm in The Chapel on the second and fourth Saturday of each month. All residents are welcome to attend this noncompetitive activity, and are en- couraged to participate, or just listen and enjoy. Usually, but not always, there will be a theme for each of the meetings. Trivia questions can be presented on any topic. Apr 13: Travelers: African Safari Peter and Dale Jones will give a Power Point presentation about their Safari ad- venture in Kenya and Tanzania to find the “Big Five” – cape buffalos, elephants, leopards, lions, and rhinoceroses. In addition, they will show some of the other animals typical of Africa - giraffes, zebras, cheetahs, warthogs, hippopota- muses, wildebeest, various species of antelopes, etc. Join the group at 9:30 am in the PAC (limited seating) or watch on Live TV 10 for this informative presen- tation. Apr 13: Jesse Stone: No Remorse Police Chief Jesse Stone’s suspended in Paradise. He helps a friend as “temp” with a serial killer in Boston. He gets his first cellphone to avoid calls from his ex. Paradise PD’s way over its head with a convenience store robbery/murder. Showtime 1:30 pm in the Theater. Apr 13: Birthday Night with Violinist Donna Wolf Violinist and fiddler, Donna Wolf, was raised in Louisville, KY and currently resides in Memphis, TN. She started playing the violin classically at the age of 10 years old. As music is her passion, she currently is a freelance violinist / fiddler and plays many genres of mu- sic including but not limited to Celtic, Bluegrass, Folk, Rock, Christian, and Classical. Don’t miss this talented mu- sician at 6:30 pm in the PAC. Apr 14: Garden Club Meeting Spring is here. Seeds were planted in the greenhouse on March 3rd. We had a great time and enjoyed the fellowship. It was great for all of us to get our hands back in the dirt!!!!! We are trying new types of large tomatoes this year. Be sure and invite our new residents to be part of the fun. Come on down to the Greenhouse every 2nd Wednesday of every month at 10:30 am rain or shine and dig in! Apr 14: The Dead Pool Inspector Dirty Harry Callahan must stop a sick secret contest to murder local celebrities, which includes himself as a target. Showtimes 1:30 pm and 6:30 pm in the Theater. Apr 16 : Music with Steve Johnston Steve is a guitarist of amazing versatil- ity. He cut his teeth on the blues, but Steve can play rock and country with the best. Steve's smooth style and easy rapport with the audience comes from years of playing on the road. Steve’s solo performance showcases Elvis, Johnny Cash, Buddy Holly, and Neil Diamond. Performances are always upbeat and a fun way to enjoy the oldies! Be sure and view in at 6:00 pm in the PAC or Live TV 10. Apr 20: Jesse Stone: Innocents Lost After his involuntary retirement, Jesse Stone investigates the suspicious death of a young friend while the Paradise po- lice force deals with the arrogant new chief, who is the son-in-law of a town councilman. Showtimes 1:30 pm and 6:30 pm in the Theater. Apr 21: Alzheimer’s Support Group Are you caring for a loved one with Alzheimer's or dementia? Our support group meets the 3rd Wednesday of ev- ery month in the Small Card Room at 10:00 We find support as well as com- forting suggestions for unique prob- lems. Caregiving can be very difficult. Come be a part of our group. Apr 21: Beyond the Blackboard A 24-year-old first-time teacher over- comes her initial fears and prejudices and makes a difference in the lives of the homeless children she teaches in a shel- ter’s makeshift classroom. Showtimes 1:30 pm & 6:30 pm. Apr 23: Music with Steve McGregory Steve McGregory is a solo singer and pianist. His performance ranges from Jerry Lee Lewis-style on the piano to old-fashioned country, gospel and rock- and-roll. Steve also enjoys sing-along and is an expert at inspiring audience participation. Steve is happy to take re- quests. His favorites are up tempo, toe tapping tunes, such as Floyd Kramer classics and old time gospel.
