As you get to know her you’ll find many reasons to enjoy her friend- ship. Laura is moving to Kirby Pines from her former home in Memphis. She moved to Memphis in 1951 after graduat- ing from Berry College in Georgia. She graduated with a B.S. in chemistry and went to work for Proctor and Gamble in Memphis as a chemist. While working in the lab at Proc- tor and Gamble she was instrumental in the development of a new product, the disposable diaper. Her name is on the patent for this product. After working at Proctor and Gam- ble for 10 years, she left a career she loved to go into the food industry. She worked for Food Services, Inc. for 26 years. Laura may look familiar to Kirby residents since she catered many dinners and receptions at different venues in Memphis. Laura was married to her late husband, Jack for 45 years. They had two children, Jonathan and Evie. Now, Laura is a proud grandmother of four grandchildren and four great grands. Being raised as an only child, she is certainly enjoy- ing life with her larger extended family. In her leisure time, Laura enjoys playing Bridge, reading (John Grisham), and watching sports especially the Tigers and the Grizzlies. Laura has done a lot of traveling, she and her late husband took trips to China, Hong Kong, Japan, Germany and Austria. Her latest traveling adventures were in the U.S.A. and Canada. She and a close friend have trav- eled in an R.V. throughout North America. You must make it a point to find Laura and give her a warm welcome to our beautiful retirement community here at Kir- by Pines. You’ll find her very interesting with many adven- tures to share with you as you tell her of the many opportu- nities she will have to enhance her life here at Kirby Pines.
