Kirby Pines Retirement Community | The Pinecone

August 2020 EVENTS • 14 • The Pinecone | August 2020 Aug 1: Dead Sea Scrolls Dr Gary Rendsburg PhD of Rutgers University prepared 24 half hour lec- tures on the greatest religious arche- ological finds of modern times “The Dead Sea Scrolls’” In each half hour lec- ture we will learn the scrolls influence on the current understanding of the scripture and religious thinking of that time. The scrolls were written before the destruction of the second temple in 70 C.E. A total of 856 documents were found in caves near the Qumran com- munity by the Dead Sea. Learn what the “YAHAD” is, what “4Qdeur” ( 4Q37) means, about the mysterious Mr. Green who purchased one of the scrolls that was advertised for sale in the Wall Street Journal, and many other facts about life in the Qumran Community. This is a rare opportunity to learn some interest- ing history of our biblical heritage. So tune your TV to channel 10 at 10:30 am each Saturday.
