The Pinecone | December 2019 • 3 • Don and Cheryl Johnson are no strangers to Kirby Pines, but have recently taken the big step in moving from their home in Collierville. They have been married 14 years with one sone between them. Don graduated from the University of Memphis in 1958 with a Bachelor's Degree. Cheryl earned her Bachelors in Finance from Florida International University in 1985. Don, as you may or may not know, is the Chaplain at Kirby Pines, and has been the last 20 years. Cheryl worked for Citicorp where she became Vice President and Supervisory Principle. During her time at Citicorp, she was selected as one of eight to head up a pilot program, training bankers to become investment consultants. They are both well traveled having visited the Middle East, Turkey, Greece, Europe, Hawaii, Italy, Egypt, Israel and more. Don enjoys broadcast recording, writing and mov- ies. He also collects Dickens Dept. 56 Houses. He also co- founded Life Choices of Memphis. Cheryl is a member of the Silver Sneakers, likes walking and music and belongs to the Germantown Athletic Club. She was Vice President of Brooks League and a member of the United Methodist Women. These two seem polar opposites with him being quiet and soft spoken while she is friendly and outgoing, but they def- initely work. They are one of the friendliest couples around, and though most of you know them, make sure to welcome them now they have made Kirby Pines their permanent home. We are glad you made the move! Don & Che r y l J ohn son Wa r ne r D i cke r son Warner Dickerson comes to Kirby Pines with his wife, Ar- cola, from their home in Olive Branch, Mississippi. Arcola currently resides in the Manor at Kirby Pines. They have been married 60 years, have two children and four grand- children. Warner received his BS from Tennessee State University, in 1961, his MS from University of Memphis in 1968 and his EdD from the University of Sarasota in 1981. Arcola earned her BS from University of Memphis in 1964. Warner taught at Carver High School throughout most of the sixties. In 1969, he moved to State Tech Vocational School and eventually became the Vice President of Academic Af- fairs. He then became Commissioner for Vocational and Technical Education in Nashville and retired in 1990 as the School Superintendent of Fayette County. The two have traveled to Spain, Jamaica, Mexico, Bermuda, Puerto Rico and Paris. He enjoys biking, vegetable garden- ing, reading and collecting rocks and drift wood. While she enjoys reading, gardening and sewing. As an educator, War- ner was given the honor of being the Most Distinguished Professor of the Year, through Leadership Memphis, what a great accomplishment. We are glad the Dickersons chose our community as their home and look forward to getting to know them. Though friends would describe them as private, they are also thought of as honest, caring and kind.
