Walk the World Challenge: for the past 5 years, residents of Kirby Pines have taken the challenge to Walk across America. As a group of 50 + we have averaged almost 5,000,000 steps each year. This year we are expanding our horizons and Walking Across Canada from British Columbia to Nova Scotia. Participants may begin registering January 6 in the Oasis. The program will run from January13 through March 9 for 8 weeks. Each week, we will track how many miles each participant walks, or completes on the Nu-Step, bike or treadmill on their own time schedule. (Get credit for 1 mile for each exercise class you participate in) If you use your pedometer, on average, 2000 steps equals one mile or keep track on your fit bit or walking app. Everyone’s mileage will be kept up individually and as a group total to see how far we can walk; pointing out interesting landmarks along the way. We’ll have photos along the hike and follow our progress on a map. Helpful tips, awards and surprises for everyone will be handed out along the “trail”. Another benefit will be the reward of beginning and continuing a great exercise habit of walking for strength and endurance. Weekly door prizes and a Grand Prize (two tickets for an Exquisite Cuisine dinner) at the end will be awarded for the most miles. Sign up for a Healthy New Year!
