Kirby Pines Retirement Community | The Pinecone
• 2 • The Pinecone | December 2020 ON THE PINECONE COVER Merry Christmas everyone. This has been a disruptive year for us all, and one that can impact holiday cheer. Yet what can be merrier than the birth of Christ. He is after all the reason we celebrate this season. Resident Jerry Dunnam has reminded us of His birth in her wonderful painting displayed in the main lobby. A recent survey indicates that instead of families getting together this Christmas, more than 62 percent plan to stay apart and send greeting cards, photos, hold a zoom gathering, or chat on the telephone. I know it would be more cheerful to be with family, but there is nothing more saddening than losing the chance to be there next year. In sending your cards try to interject some light-hearted humor. Just think back to March of this year when you smiled from ear to ear because you had toilet paper and found a can of Be Safe & Merry a t K i r b y P i n e s Michael Escamilla, Executive Director, Kirby Pines It's Christmas Time at Kirby Pines Kirby Pines Retirement LifeCare is managed by: BOARD OF D I R ECTOR S Dr. James Latimer, Chairman Mr. Rudy Herzke, President Mr. Berry Terry, Secretary/Treasurer Mr. Larry Braughton Rev. It seemed time had stopped with the current rules, restrictions and safety measures in place, keeping us from living our normal day-to-day, but suddenly Christmas is here! And with this said, it is time to celebrate the joy of the season. Christmas will be different, like everything else this year, but cannot be forgot- ten. We must still celebrate the birth of Christ. We must still celebrate our lives. We must still celebrate our family. We must still celebrate our friends. We must still celebrate. Celebrating can be done in so many ways. Dec- orate your home, your apartment, or your door. Send Christmas cards to friends and families. Bake some cookies or have some hot choco- late. Watch It's A Wonderful Life or The Bells of St. Mary's . Call your kids, FaceTime with your grandchildren. Read a new book, or an old fa- vorite. Listen to Christmas music. Do anything that helps you get in the spirit of the season and enjoy yourself. If you need a little help, we have some things this month to help get you started. We have Christmas movies showing all month, we are having a Gingerbread Decorating Contest, the Lysol on the shelves that you could purchase. You’ll smile even bigger when those face to face visits, hugs and kisses come in the months ahead as vaccines become available to us. To all of us I wish you a Christmas with peace and twinkling lights. A warm cozy corner on a cold winter night. A place at the table with your Kirby family and friends. A feeling of happiness that never ends. Kirby Tree and decorations are coming out and more. Our front cover has Curt and Peggy Wil- son sharing the first glance of the freshly delivered Kirby Pines Christmas Tree. Our back cover features Jerry Dunnam working on her beautiful Nativity paint- ing which can now be seen in the Grand Lobby. So enjoy the season, it may be different, but there is no reason you can't make it fun and most importantly, memorable. Merry Christmas, Kirby Pines! Curt & Peggy Wilson with Santa 2019
