The Pinecone | December 2020 • 3 • welcome to 3535 Kirby Road • Memphis, TN 38115 Maxine Toldi is Allene's twin sister and moved here early in this year so we can’t say everything that happened in 2020 was all bad. Maxine didn’t move far from her former home in the Parkway Village area of Memphis. Maxine and her late husband were married over 47 years and were the proud parents of two sons. She has four grandchildren. Maxine was a den mother when her sons were Cub Scouts, she worked in children’s programs in church and they went on family camping trips In High School, Maxine was elected senior class president and was salutatorian of her class. After graduating, she went to business college where she graduated in 1942. Upon graduating Maxine became a bookkeeper and secretary for Associated Southern Industries. Christmas is Maxine’s favorite holiday. She has memories of very special family gatherings on Christmas Eve. Her other childhood memories include her mother’s homemade ice cream and going on a visit to her grandmother’s house in a horse drawn wagon. Maxine enjoys traveling and has traveled throughout the United States and has been to Cuba when that was a popular place to visit. We extend a very warm welcome to Maxine and her sister, Allene. We are so happy they chose Kirby Pines for their new home and we look forward to hearing more of their stories. Maxine Toldi Allene Prude Allene and her twin sister moved into the Kirby Pines Retirement Community earlier this year. Allene relocated from her home in the Whitehaven area of Memphis. She is the proud mother of two children, six grandchildren and eight great-grands. Born in Troy, Mississippi, Allene went to school in Mississippi. She came to Memphis to go to Business College where she graduated in 1942. She worked as a secretary in the personnel office at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Allene’s proudest accomplishment is being a mother to her two amazing children. She was active in Sunday school work and the Parent Teacher Association as she was rearing her children. In her free time she enjoyed reading, watching movies like the Sound of Music and listening to the music of Perry Como and Bing Crosby. Traveling has been an enjoyable part of Allene’s life. She has traveled throughout the United States including Hawaii, Bermuda, Canada, and London, England. To stay active, this very friendly lady continues to make friends and keep up with her old ones. She is interested in other people and cares about them. When you meet Allene, you’ll know immediately that you have met a dear friend. She will be a real asset to our Kirby Pines Retirement Community, her quick wit and sweet personality will make your day. Dan Rambo Charles Daniel Rambo, better known as Dan, recently moved to Kirby Pines from Memphis. He and his late wife, Susan were the parents of two children, Richard and Andrew. Dan enjoys being granddad to five grandchildren. Graduating from the University of Tennessee in 1962 with a degree in business, Dan became a home builder in the Memphis area. He and Susan were partners in a gift shop which Dan enjoyed. Dan possibly could bring some of his expertise to volunteering in our Blossom Shop. A veteran, Dan earned the rank of captain while serving in the Air Force. After his basic training in Tucson, he was assigned to Tripoli, Libya. While in the Air Force, he traveled throughout Libya, Italy and France. During this football season, Dan should find some new friends to cheer on the UT Volunteers. Dan’s favorite holiday is Christmas so he will enjoy his first holiday season here at his new retirement home from the time he sees our beautiful giant tree go up in the lobby until we usher in the New Year at the New Year’s Eve celebration. We are elated Dan chose Kirby Pines for the next chapter of his life. When you meet Dan make him feel at home and include him in an activity that he could participate in such as the hobby shop, gardening or fitness.
