The Pinecone | February 2021 • 3 • welcome to 3535 Kirby Road • Memphis, TN 38115 New Resident Bios written by resident, Peggy Gatlin Bill and Gay Ramia came to Kirby Pines from their previous residence in Collierville. Married for 62 years, they have three children, seven grand children and eleven great grands. Bill had a long career with theUnited States government in the Treasury Department. Later, he was a regional director of a firm as a banking consultant. Gay was a full-time homemaker. Aveteran, Bill served in theU.S.Army. Hewas assigned to ammunitions and earned the rank of corporal before his discharge. As a homemaker, Gay developed a love for sewing and enjoys quilting. She also enjoys creating craft projects. Bill and Gay enjoy old movies such as Gone with the Wind and Casablanca. Their favorite music genre is oldies but goodies. They should enjoy our movies and the monthly music programs scheduled here at Kirby. Also, they enjoy cheering for the LSU Tigers. Extend a warm welcome to the Ramias. Share with them the joys of living here at Kirby Pines. Remind them that this is 2021 and we will be returning to the many enrichment opportunities before too long. For the meantime, we want them to enjoy our beautiful campus and get to know their warm friendly neighbors. We are so glad they chose Kirby Pines for their new home! B i l l & Gay Ram i a Phy l l i s Mi t che l l Phyllis recently moved to Kirby Pines from her former home in the Cordova area of Memphis. She is the proud mom of two children and grandmother of two grandchildren. Phyllis and her late husband, Jim, were married for 55 years. Many of the Kirby Pines residents will remember Jim. He was a marketing consultant at The Farms and Kirby Pines. A graduate of The University of Virginia with a degree in psychology, Phyllis was a successful homemaker along with her career as a teacher and workshop coordinator. She continues as a Christian Education Coordinator and teaching Bible study groups at Central Church. This busy lady wears many hats and enjoys her hobbies of creating craft projects, sewing, reading, as well as preparing and teaching her Bible study groups. The list of destinations Phyllis has traveled to is long and includes many places we would enjoy hearing her reporting on such as England, France, Switzerland, Austria, Germany, Israel, Greece and many others. She says her favorite destination was Israel. In high school, Phyllis was named Valedictorian of her senior class and she made the Deans List when she went to The University of Virginia. When her children were in school, she served as PTO president and she has also been a writer and seminar leader for Gospel Light Publications. Besides all of her interests and activities, Phyllis enjoys swimming and walking to stay active. Get to know Phyllis and give her a warm Kirby welcome. With all of her talents and interests she will instantly be a fit for our many enrichment opportunities as we progress toward our “new normal” here at our retirement community. We are elated Phyllis chose us for this chapter of her life.
