The Pinecone | July 2022 • 3 • New Resident Bios written by resident, Peggy Reynolds Gatlin Get to know Kirby Pines' Phyllis Peterson has moved to Kirby Pines from her former home in Germantown, Tennessee. She and her late husband have a son, Lance. Born in Moscow, Idaho, Phyllis lived in the north- west (Washington State and Oregon) before relocat- ing to Memphis in 1977. Her husband came to teach at the University of Memphis. Moving to Memphis in August, the hot humid weather was a shock. But, the friendliness of Memphians and the southern home cooking soon won her over. Phyllis took classes at the University of Memphis. She did some photography for The Helmsman, the school’s daily newspaper and taught some pre-school and adult education classes. Photography continues to be a hobby as well as knit- ting and reading. She collects dolls and yarn. To exer- cise, she walks. Phyllis recently returned from a trip to Ireland. She has visited all of the states except Alaska and Rhode Is- land. She has also been to England and Italy. Her proudest accomplishment: She quit smoking 35 years ago. You must find Phyllis and include her in your circle of friends. You will find her warm, friendly and eager to be active in Kirby’s lifestyle.
