Beginners Mahjong is every Friday at 1:15 pm in the SCR. Jun 8: Travelers: Heartland of England A video about Rick Steves’ travels in the Heartland of England will be shown. The presentation will include the es- teemed universities of Cambridge and Oxford and their Gothic architecture; a visit to the birthplace of Churchill; Warwick Castle; and the River Valley where the industrial revolution began. In West England we will glimpse how natural, historical, and cultural aspects collide as we tour quaint villages in the Cotswold area. Our visit to this region will include a cathedral, farmlands with grazing sheep, and even ancient Stone- henge. Jun 8: Tomorrow Man The android Kent is programmed to travel back in time and save humanity from its future. His way leads to earth, which is going to be destroyed by a great rocket-disaster. As he wants to prohibit this, a mad scientist is in his way. But there are more problems: He has to act as a human. Computer-expert Jonathan Driscoll becomes his mentor and tries to help and repair him. Showtime 1:30 pm in the Theater. Jun 8: Birthday Night with Breeze Cayolle Brian “Breeze” Cayolle’s music is soul- ful, strong and deeply rooted in the R&B, jazz, and rock and roll traditions of his native New Orleans. Breeze is joined by acclaimed jazz keyboard art- ist Alvie Givhan. Together, they bring the energy of New Orleans live jazz into your senior community. Join in the fun at 6:30 pm in the PAC or on Live TV 10. Jun 9: Garden Club Meeting We are trying new types of large toma- toes this year. Be sure and invite our new residents to be part of the fun, now is the time to prepare yourself for the physical stress of gardening. This month Jeremy will present our topic of “Fun in the Sun-Outdoor Safety Tips for Older Adults.” Jun 9: Blinded By The Light In 1987 Britain, Javed Khan is a Brit- ish-Pakistani college arts student in Luton in a family with a domineering father. Jun 10 : Elder Abuse Forum Tennessee’s District Attorney Generals are on a mission to protect seniors from elder abuse. They are improving laws, increasing public awareness and, with the help of other partners, using crim- inal investigations and courtroom pros- ecutions to protect seniors from elder abuse. They need the help of informed citizens to win this battle. Join us for an informational session at 2:00 pm in the PAC. Jun 10: KP Photo Club The Photo Club is back and stronger than ever! Come join us at 3:00 pm in the Large Card Room. Jun 11 : Music with The Double D Band The Double D Band plays a wide range of songs and genres, but especially mu- sic from the 50s. Playing guitars and mandolins, they’ve appeared on MTV, BBC, and have been a part of the mu- sic scene in London, England and New York City, having lived and performed in both. 6:00 pm in the Lobby. Jun 12 & 26: Saturday Trivia The Kirby Pines Trivia Group meets at 6:15 pm in The Chapel on the second and fourth Saturday of each month. All residents are welcome to attend this noncompetitive activity, and are en- couraged to participate, or just listen and enjoy. Usually, but not always, there will be a theme for each of the meetings. Trivia questions can be presented on any topic. Jun 15: Dreamgirls Detroit, the early 1960s.
