Happy Father’s Day! This month
we get to celebrate being a father and
having a father. Although my father is
no longer living, I have vivid memories
of great times we spent together at
his auto parts store and at his father’s
ranch. Dad showed me how to bait a
hook to fish, and how to build a model
plane, how to tie a neck tie and how
to press my hands together in church.
Things that today, I still do just as he
taught me. I miss the ability to sit down
and talk to Dad about everyday life, but
the one thing I miss most are his hands.
Hands that held mine, walked me to
school from his truck, held on to me so
I would not fall off my bike. His hands
held mine through so many steps in
life, and I was able to hold his when he
entered into his spiritual life.
I recently read that there are seven
dimensions of wellness that contribute
to our quality of life. Consider the social
and emotional wellness that gives us the
ability to relate and connect with others.
Another is the spiritual wellness which
establishes peace and harmony in our
lives. The fifth, occupational wellness,
It’s Father’s Day

provides us fulfillment and purpose. It is
many times our occupation that allows
us to use the final two dimensions,
intellectual and physical wellness.
At Kirby Pines, we do our best
to make available all seven of the
dimensions of wellness. By offering an
environment that provides interaction
with fellow residents; a chapel for
individual and group use; a library to
stimulate our intellectual wellness; a
pool and exercise equipment to increase
our physical wellness
This Father’s Day, I now realize
that my own father, in his own way,
with his own hands, provided me with
the seven dimensions of wellness that
have contributed to my quality of life.
Happy Father’s Day!

Hitting the Links!
Since it is June, we decided to
honor Father’s Day, celebrate Physical
Wellness and enjoy the early part of
summer. With all of these in mind, golf
seemed to be par for the course.
So we gathered up our clubs and
headed to The Links at Fox Meadows
with Kirby Pines resident Ken Lewis.
Ken’s approach to getting a grip on
Physical Wellness is to swing by 2 to 3
times a week to play a round.
We appreciate him letting us cart him
around for the afternoon and showing us
some of his skills. He is a fine example
of what this issue is all about and we
couldn’t be happier to have him as part
of the Kirby Pines family.
