May 8: Jeremy Shrader Duo Jeremy performs jazz/swing, big band, and blues music with his various com- bos. He is a trumpeter and vocalist originally from Clarksville, TN but has made Memphis his home since 1995. The songs of Frank Sinatra, Louis Arm- strong, Duke Ellington, and other great masters live on through his voice and trumpet. He is available wherever good times and great music is needed. At 6:00 pm in PAC and Live TV 10. May 9 & 23: Saturday Triva The Kirby Pines Trivia Group meets at 6:15 pm in the Chapel on the second and fourth Saturday of each month. All residents are welcome and encouraged to attend, participate, or just listen and enjoy. The THEME for the May 9 meet- ing will be Mother's Day, and the May 23 meeting Memorial Day. Trivia ques- tions in any other area are encouraged. May 11: Creative Writing Class Memphis author Susan Cushman will be leading a creative writing workshop on the second Monday of each month. She is the author of three books--a memoir, a novel, and a short story collection. She is also editor of three anthologies of es- says by other authors. This is for anyone with any interest in creative writing, at any level of experience, including be- ginners. We have ordered all necessary items for planting. Also ordered is a surprise tool cutter called a cutter mattock. We hope this will dry up the area somewhat. Tomato plants are growing well and are ready for outdoor planting. We have a cold snap at present and we should wait to plant. Asparagus bed is mature and ready for harvest. Cut or snap off at ground level. It is first come-first serve. So now. Relax, wash your hands, wear a face mask, pray and enjoy the day. To get a tomato pot you need to make your request. Call Char- lie or write one. Come on down to the Greenhouse every 2nd Wednesday of every month at 10:30 am rain or shine and dig in! Showtimes 1:30 pm & 6:30 pm. May 15: Sing Again Once again Kirby's talented residents, whether in a group or singularly, share their talents in the PAC at 6:30 pm. Musical solos, vocal and instrumental, along with poetry and humerous read- ings are planned. May 19: Max In this affecting drama based on real events, military dog Max is adopted by the family of his trainer, who was killed in Afghanistan. Besides helping the family overcome their grief, Max’s arriv- al provides new clues about the soldier’s death. Showtimes 1:30 pm and 6:30 pm. May 20: Alzheimer’s Support Group Are you caring for a loved one with Alzheimers or dementia? Our support group meets the 3rd Wednesday of every month in the Ante Room at 10:00 am. May 20: Magnificent Seven In this remake of the rousing 1960 Western, a motley group of gunslingers comes together to protect the residents of a mining town, who are being terror- ized and victimized by a ruthless gold tycoon and his gang of thugs. Show- times 1:30 pm and 6:30 pm. May 20: Girls Night Out Don’t miss this good time with just the ladies for a movie and fun. 6:30 pm in the Movie Theater. This month’s movie will be “ 9 to 5 ". May 22: Resident Art Wall Reception Join us for a wine and cheese reception from 3:00 to 4:00 pm in the PAC. May 22: Oscar Sueing Oscar began learning and playing the saxophone at the age of 13. He played in his high school marching band and continued playing musical gigs while studying Music Education at Tennes- see State University in Nashville. Dr. Sueing later received a Master’s Degree and Doctorate of Ministry from Mem- phis Theological Seminary. Dr. Sueing played with local legend Kirk Whalum and numerous other notable jazz artists.
