All denomina- tions invited. May 6: Downton Abbey A chronicle of the lives of the British aristocratic Crawley family and their servants in the early twentieth century. Showtime will be Thursdays at 1:30 pm. May 7: Art with Helen Whether you are already an artist or would like to learn, join teacher Helen Gaines on Fridays at 10:00 am in the Arts & Crafts Room. May 7: Music with The Isbells You are sure to enjoy this young, multi-tal- ented and anointed family singing group from Savannah, TN. Enjoy toe-tapping, hand-clapping instrumentals, and be in- spired by encouraging testimonies and original songs written by members of the group! Don’t miss them at 6:00 pm in PAC & Live TV 10. May 8: Mother's Day Cookout Its here, our favorite time of the year! Come enjoy a fun filled day with family, friends, and great food including BBQ, hot dogs, hamburgers, watermelon, ice- cream, and more. The fun starts at 11:00 am. May 8 & 22: Saturday Trivia The Kirby Pines Trivia Group meets at 6:15 pm in The Chapel on the second and fourth Saturday of each month. All residents are welcome to attend this noncompetitive activity, and are en- couraged to participate, or just listen and enjoy. Usually, but not always, there will be a theme for each of the meetings. Trivia questions can be presented on any topic. May 11: Travelers: African Safari Peter and Dale Jones will give the second part of a Power Point presentation on their Safari in travels to Kenya and Tan- zania searching for the “Big Five.” In this presentation, they will feature some of the other animals (the so-called “Lesser Five”) typical of Africa – wildebeests, ze- bras, giraffes, warthogs, hippopotamuses, ostriches, crocodiles, and various species of antelopes – and illustrate the GreatWil- debeest Migration. Join the group at 9:30 am in the PAC (limited seating) or watch on Live TV10 for this informative presen- tation. May 11: Crossfire Trail Rafe promises a dying friend to look after his wife and 40,000 acre ranch in Wyo- ming. A powerful businessman wants the ranch and widow by whatever means nec- essary.Showtime 1:30 pm in the Theater. May 11: Birthday Night with Side Street Steppers The Side Street Steppers are a page from America’s past, playing rare and popular music from the 1920s and 30s. They pres- ent a pastiche of this transformation of the American musical landscape, performing on vintage and homemade instruments. Get ready for plenty of hip-shaking, foot stompin’, caterwauling and croonin’. Join in the fun at 6:30 pm in the PAC or on Live TV 10. May 12: Garden Club Meeting Our new garden layout was well re- ceived. We have 120 early girl and 120 big red plants ready for the garden. We also now have a permanent asparagus bed! Too many folks to thank for their hard work, so just come join us in the Greenhouse every 2nd Wednesday of the month at 10:30 am rain or shine! Be sure and invite our new residents to be part of the fun. May 12: Broken Trust Justice Department investigators recruit a municipal judge to expose corrupt mem- bers of the bench. Showtimes 1:30 pm and 6:30 pm in the Theater. May 13: Resident Association Meeting Be sure and join us for this month’s meet- ing at 2:00 pm in the PAC. Our speaker will be Jill Crocker, Executive Director of The Ronald McDonald House in Mem- phis. May 13: KP Photo Club The Photo Club is back and stronger than ever! Come join us at 3:00 pm in the Large Card Room May 14 : Music with Oscar Sueing Oscar began learning and playing the saxophone at the age of 13. Dr. Sueing played with local legend Kirk Whalum and numerous other notable jazz artists. His soulful rendition of jazz, gospel and rhythm and blues tunes will leave you happy and inspired! Join him at 6:00 pm in the PAC or Live TV 10. May 18: Dear John When soldier John Tyree meets an ideal- istic college student, Savannah Curtis, it's the beginning of a strong romance. Over the next seven tumultuous years and separated by John's increasingly danger- ous deployment, the lovers stay in touch through their letters, meeting in person only rarely.
