Kirby Pines received a donation of 20 Koi fish from Chris, Brandy, and Samantha Brawley that were placed in Lake Latimer, April 27th. They are “street smart fish,” meaning they will know the difference between food and predators. They will feed on the vegetation, and algae off rocks in the lake but can also be fed. One of the Koi fish is pregnant. It will lay around 4,000 eggs, most of which will be eaten by predators or the other fish. The Koi fish can grow up to 36 inches in length. One of the 20 fish is a Sarasa Comet, the rest are all Koi.
