The Pinecone | May 2021 • 3 • welcome to 3535 Kirby Road • Memphis, TN 38115 New Resident Bios written by resident, Peggy Reynolds Gatlin Bobby and Susie Thompson moved to Kirby Pines with their two cats Holly Belle and Katy Bug from Hernan- do, Mississippi. They have anticipated their move to Kirby and are elated they can now call our community their home. Bobby graduated fromWhitehaven High School and at- tended University of Memphis. He became a machinist for Canadian National Railroad and worked there for 34 years. He later owned a travel agency. Susie graduated from Germantown High School. Besides being a home- maker, she owned and operated a mobile catering busi- ness, “Susan’s Concessions.” Painting, woodworking and traveling keep Bobby busy. His favorite hobby is re-purposing old and discarded items in unusual funky ways. Susie is an avid animal lover, especially cats. She is known by some as “The Cat Lady.” She also enjoys reading, puzzles, games, and flowers. If these interests don’t keep them busy, they also enjoy classic westerns and scary movies. Traveling in their motor home, they have toured most of the United States. Bobby has also visited 19 foreign countries. This active couple will certainly be an asset to our Kirby Pines Retirement Community. We hope they will share their talents and love of life personalities with us as soon as they get settled. Greet themwarmly as we open up for our summer activities. Born in Winona, MS, Elsie moved to the Memphis area at an early age. She is the mother of two sons and a daughter. She is also the proud grandmother to six grandsons and six great-grands. Upon graduating from Draughon’s Business College in 1950, Elsie launched into a career in the business and sales fields. Until she retired, she was successful in furnishing and selling interior hotel furnishings. A sure fit for the Kirby lifestyle, Elsie’s interests run the gamut from crafting to golfing. She is a Master Gardener and has been involved in the Bluebird and Herb Societies of America. For 20 years, Elsie was involved in organizing golf tournaments to benefit The Hemophilia Foundation. Elsie enjoys traveling and has traveled throughout the United States, missing only the Dakotas. She has also visited many foreign countries and found Ireland to be her favorite destination. We are so happy to have Elsie at Kirby Pines! She says she is a collector of memories and with her friendly outgoing personality, she will surely add to her collection. Let’s give her a warm Kirby welcome and get her involved in “Kirby Way of Life.”
