Meryl Stewart
Meryl Stewart, a retired military
careerist, moved to Kirby Pines from
Leesburg, Florida. Maxine, his wife of
62
+ years passed away November 2013.
He completed two years at Harding U.
in Searcy, Ark. before embarking on a
life-long military career. During WWII,
Meryl joined the Navy and served as
an Aviation Storekeeper for 22 months.
After leaving the Navy, he worked several
jobs, including as a machinist apprentice
and selling life insurance. In 1954, Meryl
joined the Air Force Reserves and was
called to active duty in 1955. In 1977, he
retired from the Air Force with the rank
of Chief Master Sergeant. Tours of duty
included Vietnam, the Atlantic Ocean,
Mediterranean, and Caribbean theaters.
This career choice was especially
appealing given the opportunity of
traveling all over the world. He has been
to Italy, Japan, Morocco, Turkey, Greece,
England, Denmark, Scotland, Korea,
Vietnam, Hong Kong, Thailand, Mexico,
Trinidad, and Cuba.
Meryl’s interests include golf,
fishing, hunting, billiards, and music,
especially old time country music. One of
his best memories is the pleasure gained
in designing and building a home and out
buildings on the Kenai River in Alaska.
Meryl, we are pleased that you have
chosen to be part of Kirby Pines. You’re
in good company and we wish you many
years of contentment here.
