Kirby Pines Retirement Community | The Pinecone

• 2 • The Pinecone | November 2018 ON THE PINECONE COVER Happy Thanksgiving! I find it beneficial to take time, not only in November, to give thanks for all we have, but throughout the year. This past year has been one filled with anxious moments for many living in the United States. Some individuals have had to worry about if their homes would survive hurricanes, tornados and floods. While others have worried about landing a job, finding medical assistance or just making enough money to buy food. Some of us know of individuals who have directly suffered this year from many of the hardships mentioned above, but luckily none of us here at Kirby Pines have directly had to deal with these hardships. We should all be very thankful that our individual problems have been small in comparison to so many. Sometimes we need reminders that Thanksgiving isn’t just a meal with family and friends. We celebrated our 35th Anniversary during our annual Lighting of the Lake, we had a Ribbon Cutting for our New Boulevard Entrance, we had a Memphis Most Party to celebrate another win as the #1 Retirement Community in the area, and most recently, we held our Annual Fall Festival. When you also throw in all the other music, outings, programs, classes and clubs offered, you wonder where do we go from here? Don’t worry, becausewe have plenty in store for November with the holidays around the corner. There will be several groups visiting from local schools to entertain, we will honor our veterans, we will walk to fight Alzheimer’s, we will visit Davies Plantation, we will go to the theater, we will celebrate Thanksgiving and begin decorating for Christmas. Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on all things that are a part of our lives, whether good or bad. Thanksgiving is a time for us to act thankful. Therefore, this year when you celebrate our national holiday of Thanksgiving, whether with family or friends, take a moment to simply say thank you to the people in your life. After all, isn’t that what we should be most thankful for? So, thank you for a wonderful year here at Kirby Pines, and enjoy the blessed Thanksgiving. A good crowd came out for food, fun and fellowship at the Kirby Pines Fall Festival. With all of that in mind, our front cover features new residents Mike and Jan Jaeger at their first Kirby Pines Fall Festival. We know they are in store for many more firsts in the months to come. Our back cover from the same day, is the Grassfire Bluegrass Band, who had everyone clapping, stomping and dancing, in the cool late fall air. A great time was had by all, and get ready, because we’re not slowing down a bit!
