Kirby Pines Retirement Community | The Pinecone

The Pinecone | October 2018 • 3 • welcome to 3535 Kirby Road • Memphis, TN 38115 All new resident bios are written by Peggy Reynolds Gatlin, Kirby Pines Resident You’ll certainly want to meet Jane Doughty, an interesting lady moving to Kirby Pines fromArlington, TN. Jane and her late husband, Ervin, were married almost 70 years. They had 2 children of which Jane is very proud. Their son, Dennis, is a minister and writer in Tunica, Mississippi. Their daughter, Debbie, is a writer in Wisconsin. She will be visiting soon and we’ll all be looking for her in her little yellow RV. She and Jane will be traveling to the Storytellers Festival in east Tennessee. Ervin Doughty was in the U.S. Air Force for 3 years. Before he departed for his overseas assignment in the Philippines, he and Jane eloped. When Jane and her siblings were very young, their Mother died. Their Dad worked hard as a single parent to make a good home for them. Jane’s proudest accomplishment was making her Dad proud of her when she graduated from Chat- tanooga State College. Jane and Ervin did mission work in Singapore and Russia. While in Singapore, their work spread to other far east coun- tries. Much of their work involved the printing and dispersing of church-related material. In Russia, they found the people very friendly. They had interpreters so that speaking and un- derstanding of the two languages did not hinder their work. Jane’s apartment reflects the places where she served with many of the gifts she received from the friends she made. Before moving to west Tennessee, the Doughtys lived in Chattanooga. TN. and in St. Petersburg, FLwhere they served in various churches. Jane is looking forward to meeting new friends at Kirby Pines. So watch for her at lunch or in the lobby and give her a spe- cial Kirby welcome. She has many adventures to share and she will be an asset to Kirby Pines Retirement Community. J ane Dough t y Pat r i c i a At t neave One of our newest residents at Kirby Pines Retirement Com- munity is Patricia Attneave or as her friends call her, Pat. She is almost a lifetime Memphian. Her family moved to Mem- phis when she was nine years old from Black Hawk, MS. Black Hawk is near Duck Hill, MS. Her mom home schooled Pat and her brother using the Calvert Method. Home school- ing was very rare at that time but, Pat was entered into the Memphis Public Schools as a 4th grader. She went to Bruce, Bellevue Jr. High and Central followed by a brief stint at Memphis State. Pat chose to take a business course and after finishing she was a hired by Wilson Mount, Program Manager of the old WMCT. She continued to work there when it became WMC- TV and retired after 42 years as Production Department Ad- ministrator. Pat moved to Kirby Pines from her home of 50 years in the High Point area of Memphis. Her beloved family includes a niece of Eugene, Oregon, a nephew of Seattle, and her “niece-in-love,” Mary Ann Weav- er, a lifelong Memphian. Angus MacDonald is like a son to Pat and calls her his “Memphis Mom.” Angus is from Ding- wall, Scotland and he and Pat have traveled to Scotland 5 times to visit his Mom and sisters. She has also enjoyed cruis- es to The Virgin Islands and the Panama Canal. Pat’s favorite pastor is Dr. Charles Stanley and she begins each day with an inspirational message from Joyce Meyer. She enjoys almost any genre of music and used to dabble at playing the piano “by ear.” Because of failing eyesight, Pat doesn’t read much but enjoys crossword puzzles and simple knitting. Pat has lived a rather quiet and simple life but is hopeful she will enjoy this new chapter at Kirby Pines. Let’s give her a warm Kirby welcome
