Oct 10 & 24: Saturday Triva The Kirby Pines Trivia Group meets at 6:15 pm in The Chapel on the second and fourth Saturday of each month. All residents are welcome to attend this noncompetitive activity, and are en- couraged to participate, or just listen and enjoy. Usually, but not always, there will be a THEME for each of the meet- ings. Trivia questions can be presented on any topic. Oct 12: Creative Writing Class Memphis author Susan Cushman will be leading a creative writing workshop on the second Monday of each month. She is the author of three books--a memoir, a novel, and a short story collection. She is also editor of three anthologies of es- says by other authors. This is for anyone with any interest in creative writing, at any level of experience, including be- ginners. Oct 14: Shadows In The Sun An aspiring young writer tracks a liter- ary titan suffering from writers block to his refuge in rural Italy and learns about life and love from the irascible genius and his daughters. Showtimes 1:30 pm & 6:30 pm. Oct 14: Garden Club Meeting The Garden club had 16 residents that met outdoors wearing masks and 6 feet apart. We were told about wintering our house plants and the procedure for putting your house plants in the green- house. The tomato season is over and fall planting is due now. Look forward to mustard greens and turnip greens, collards, and lettuce. We will begin pick- ing up the patio tomatoes next week in the cool weather. Come on down to the Greenhouse every 2nd Wednesday of every month at 10:30 am rain or shine and dig in! Oct 16: Music with Steve McGregory Steve McGregory is a solo singer and pianist. His performance ranges from Jerry Lee Lewis-style on the piano to old-fashioned country, gospel and rock- and-roll. Steve also enjoys sing-along and is an expert at inspiring audience participation. Steve is happy to take re- quests. 6:00 pm in PAC and on Live TV Channel 10. Oct 20: Traveler's Present Peter Jones will give a Power Point pre- sentation on the Galapagos Islands. This archipelago of volcanic islands, distributed on either side of the equator in the Pacific Ocean, are located about 563 miles west of continental Ecuador. The islands are known for their large number of endemic species and feature many unique animal species including giant tortoises, marine and land igua- nas, boobies, waved albatrosses, frigate birds, penguins, sally light foot crabs, sea lions, and fur seals as well as many different types of birds. Oct 20: Poms Poms In this uplifting comedy, life in a retirement community is anything but retiring for a group of young-at-heart senior ladies who decide to pull out the pom-poms and form a cheerleading squad. Showtimes 1:30 pm & 6:30 pm. Oct 21: Alzheimer’s Support Group Are you caring for a loved one with Alzheimers or dementia? Our support group meets the 3rd Wednesday of every month in the Ante Room at 10:00 am. Oct 21: Under the Tuscan Sun After divorcing her cheating husband, Frances Mayes tries to overcome her depression and writer’s block by taking a vacation to Tuscany. Charmed by the location, she impulsively decides to buy a villa there. Showtimes 1:30 pm & 6:30 pm. Oct 22: Yellowstone As owners of the largest contiguous ranch in the United States, the Dutton clan seems to have it made.
