Celebrate
HEALTHY AGING!
Good health ensures independence,
security, and involvement for the
majority of the older adult population.
Yet, according to the NCOA (National
Council on Aging) millions of older
adults suffer from depression, falls,
behavioral health issues, substance
abuse, and chronic diseases. These
issues can cause individuals to live a
seemingly low quality of life. Many
people are unaware that they CAN
improve their quality of life in many
ways with or without these issues.
For example, in one calendar year, a
person 65 years of age or older spends
63
days in a ‘physically unhealthy
state’. Also, 1 out of every 3 older
adults in the US has not participated in
a physical activity in the past month.
Consequently, 1 out of 4 of these older
adults are considered obese. These few
statistics display a big reason as to why
it is important for every individual to
focus on healthy and active aging at any
age in life.
With September being nationally
recognized as “Active Aging” month,
we would like to introduce the idea of
active/healthy aging to all who would
like some advice and ideas of how to live
a happier and mentally healthier life!
Please join us on the 18th of September
in the Performing Arts Center at 9:45
am to learn more! We look forward to
seeing you all there.
