Check out “The Poet’s Corner” on the post office bulletin board where a residential poet will be featured each month. We meet the first & third Mon- day of every month in the Ante Room at 10:00 am. Sept 8 : Birthday Night Con- cert with Just Friends Be sure and join Just Friends Band on Birthday Night to hear some Jazz, Vin- tage Standards, & Rock – N – Roll at 6:30 in PAC or on Live TV Channel 10. Sept 9: Memphis Hearing Aid Service On the second Wednesday of every month, at 10:00 am in the Arts & Crafts Room, Dr. Rena C Booth will be of- fering: Free Hearing Evaluation, Free Hearing Aid Consultation, Free Hear- ing Aid Clean, Check, and Adjustment. Please call 682-1529 for more informa- tion or to schedule a visit. Sept 9: Garden Club Meeting We had a great Watermelon Party. The secret melon bed was raided and all melons were taken. But Mike Rayder saved the day with a trip to Kroger! Gar- den News: Don’t give up on old plants. They are getting old and their append- ages look sad. TLC is still in order to give you a little longer for a few more tomatoes. Put all trash at South end of rows. Put tomato rejects in bag and place in trash barrels. We hope to re- place wooden beds this winter, also add an underground watering system. We are now thinking about our fall plant- ing of onions and greens. We will pick up pots during a cool spell. Gardening is a year round job, but too much fun to be called work. Come on down to the Greenhouse every 2nd Wednesday of every month at 10:30 am rain or shine and dig in! Sept 9: Ray The story of the life and career of the leg- endary rhythm and blues musician Ray Charles, from his humble beginnings in the South, where he went blind at age sev- en, to his meteoric rise to stardom during the 1950s and 1960s. Showtimes 1:30 pm & 6:30 pm. Sept 10: Resident Association Meeting Don’t miss the Residents Association Meeting this month! Watch on Live TV or come to the PAC at 2:00 pm. Our speaker this month is Tim Dalfiume from the Memphis Zoo who will be tell- ing us about the history of the zoo and other interesting tidbits. Sept 11: Music with Steve Johnston Steve is a guitarist of amazing versatility. He cut his teeth on the blues, but Steve can play rock and country with the best. Steve’s smooth style and easy rapport with the audience comes from years of playing on the road. Steve’s solo perfor- mance showcases Elvis, Johnny Cash, Buddy Holly, and Neil Diamond. 6:00 pm in PAC and on Live TV Channel 10. Sept 12 & 26: Saturday Triva The Kirby Pines Trivia Group meets at 6:15 pm in The Chapel on the second and fourth Saturday of each month. All residents are welcome to attend this noncompetitive activity, and are en- couraged to participate, or just listen and enjoy. Usually, but not always, there will be a THEME for each of the meet- ings. Trivia questions can be presented on any topic. Sept 14: Creative Writing Class Memphis author Susan Cushman will be leading a creative writing workshop on the second Monday of each month. She is the author of three books--a memoir, a novel, and a short story collection. She is also editor of three anthologies of es- says by other authors. This is for anyone with any interest in creative writing, at any level of experience, including be- ginners. Sept 15: Traveler's Present Sheryl & Mark Maxwell will share a video about the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic Railroad that has the unique dis- tinction of being one of the finest pre- served railway museums, and one of the most beautifully scenic railroads in the United States. We’ll visit this marvelous railroad, viewing the line from Cha- ma New Mexico to Antonito Colorado Southwest Colorado. Sept 15: The Intern Agreeing to participate in a community outreach program, e-commerce entre- preneur Jules Ostin hires a 70-year-old intern, who ends up bringing his special brand of business savvy to her fashion enterprise. Our support group meets the 3rd Wednesday of every month in the Ante Room at 10:00 am. Sept 16: Miss Congeniality An F.B.I. Agent must go undercover in the Miss United States beauty pageant to prevent a group from bombing the event. Showtimes 1:30 pm & 6:30 pm. Sept 18: Music with the Jeremy Schrader Trio Jeremy Shrader performs jazz/swing, big band, and blues music with his var- ious combos. He is a trumpeter and vocalist originally from Clarksville, TN but has made Memphis his home since 1995. The songs of Frank Sinatra, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, and other great masters live on through his voice
