Tennessee Shakespeare Co. - 2024-2025 Playbill
42 TNSHAKESPEARE.ORG THE MACBETH INITIATIVE Now in its fourth season, The Macbeth Initiative brings in-classroom experiences, teacher-training opportunities, and a 90-minute production of Macbeth to schools throughout the city and county. The Initiative is developed to provide students with an opportunity to connect with Shakespeare’s characters and text through an interactive class, taught by TSC’s teaching-artist team that includes the cast of Macbeth. Students are posed questions about the decisions of the characters and how they impact others, as well as the world around them. Students get a chance to see the production of Macbeth performed by professional actors, which is often students’ first experience with live performance or Shakespeare. This project is part of Shakespeare in American Communities , a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest. “The playshop and the performance presented the play as it was meant to be experienced. This allowed the students to engage with the material on a deeper level and added more meaning to the words and action represented in the script.” - Arlington High School teacher Marquis Dijon Archuleta, Macbeth, 2024.
