Museum of Art: Tea
&
Tour “Angels &
Tomboys: Girlhood in
19
th Century
American Art”
This special exhibition explores the
manywaysinwhichgirlswereportrayed
in American painting, sculpture, prints,
and photography during the nineteenth
century. Although the most typical
portrayals are of girls as innocent,
passive, and domestic, the exhibition
includes alternative images of tomboys,
working children, and adolescents.
Among the themes explored are
Victorian attitudes toward the nature
and nurture of children; the association
of girls with fashion, health and home;
and the impact of the Civil War on
families. Masterworks by American
painters John Singer Sargent, Thomas
Eakins, Winslow Homer, Cecilia
Beaux, and William Merritt Chase are
among the 74 works featured in Angels
&
Tomboys. Bus leaves at 1:00 p.m.

Community Theatre
Presents “AMurder
is Announced”
The announcement in the local paper
states time and place of a murder that
is yet to occur in Miss Blacklock’s
Victorian house. The victim-to-be is
not one of several occupants, temporary
and permanent, but an unexpected
and unknown visitor. What follows
is a classic Christie puzzle of mixed
motives, concealed identities, a second
death, and a determined Inspector
grimly following the twists and turns.
And, of course, Miss Marple – who
provides the final solution at some risk
to herself in a dramatic confrontation
scene just before the final curtain! Call
the Box Office at 754-2680 for tickets.
Bus leaves at 6:30 p.m. Sign up in
Transportation.
