Brittany Davis
Employee of the Month -April 2013
Brittany Davis is one of the most familiar faces in the dining room at Kirby
Pines. Since November, 2008, she has been fulfilling her capacity as a member
of the wait staff. Taking care of our residents is her number one priority. She is
usually identified by the bright and colorful flowers that she often wears in her hair
as a means to cheer up the people that she graciously serves. Her captivating smile
is one of the reasons that she is loved by the residents at Kirby Pines. Brittany’s
love for her job is seen by her commitment to work hard to create an enjoyable
dining experience. We congratule her for being selected as the Employee of the
Month!

Congratulations
In the 1992 Olympics in
Barcelona, Spain, Derek Redmond
was favored to win the 400 metre
sprint. As he reached the 150 metre
mark he felt a sharp pain and fell to
the ground. Desiring to finish the
race, Derek got up and started limping
toward the finish line. A man jumped
over the railing in the stands, pushed
past security guards and made his way
to the runner. The man was Derek’s
father. Putting his arm around his son
and placing his son’s arm over his
shoulder he said, “You don’t have to
do this.” “Yes I do,” replied Derek.
Then we’ll do it together” replied the
father. Side by side they made their
way around the track. Near the race’s
end the father let go of his son and let
him finish by himself. 65,000 people
in the stands rose to their feet and gave
Derek an unbelievable ovation. It was
one of the most inspiring and dramatic
scenes in all of Olympic history.
Sometimes it isn’t winning that
counts. Unexpected things happen that
prohibit us from being first. Victory
isn’t always won in being in front of
all the rest. When we find ourselves
on the ground we search for strength
to push past the pain, lay aside the
seeming failure, forget the dream that
has died and rise up to finish the course.
The goal line is still there. And don’t
forget…the Father is there also. He
comes to our aid when our strength is
gone. He puts His loving arms around
us and lets us lean on His shoulders.
Whatever we need He can abundantly
provide. I imagine spectators, on earth
and in heaven, rise to give us a standing
ovation. The joy of finishing exceeds
any agony we may confront.
Maybe this is what Paul meant
when he wrote to his young protégé,
Timothy, and said, “I have fought the
good fight, I have finished the race, I
have kept the faith. Finally there is laid
up for me a crown of righteousness,
which the Lord, the righteous Judge,
will give to me on that Day, and not
to me only but also to all who love His
appearing.”
(
II Timothy 4:7-8) And what
profitable counsel is found in Hebrews
12:1, “…
let us run with endurance the
race that is set before us.”
Don’t give up! Don’t stay
down! Finish at all costs!
