Shirley Lynn was born in Carlisle
County, Kentucky and is a retired
pastor in the United Methodist Church,
a career she felt was a clear call and a
gift of God.
Shirley’s late husband also went
to college and seminary school. They
had two boys and she now has four
grandchildren.
She was always taught to be honest
and prepared to work hard to make her
dreams come true and fulfill her goals,
but the thing she loves most is to help
people laugh. She says it just makes us
all feel better. She admits looking at her
picture on her Kirby Pines ID gave her
the one of the best laughs lately.
Shirley enjoys stage plays, opera,
symphony and visiting family and
friends. She was a majorette with her
high school band and used to tap dance
at shows put on by her small town
Kiwanis Club.

Joyce Matlock
George & Alma Crone
Joyce Matlock’s parents taught her
to love the Lord and each other. They
also taught her to work hard, get an
education and simply be happy.
This education came from a farm
in Vossburg, Mississippi, where her
Daddy said, “On the farm, I raised corn,
cotton and girls”.... Joyce said there
were four of them.
She attended Mississippi Southern,
now University of Southern Miss, and
became a research tech. She married
M.E. (Jim) Matlock and they had 3
children. She nowhas five grandchildren
and a great-grandaughter.
Joyce likes to read and to play
rummikub in her spare time. One of the
most interesting trips she has taken was
a three week car trip from Amsterdam
to Munich.
She is also a certified tree farmer,
but her main focus is to just be happy.
George and Alma Crone were
married in 1958, after meeting at
Memphis State University. They have
three children, Kelley, Luanne and
George III (Tad) and four grandchildren.
Alma was studying to be an English
teacher when she met George, who
went on to own Crone Monument
Co. and Jackson Marble & Granite
works in Jackson, Tennessee. He
was a memorialist, mostly cemetery
monuments, but has also designed and
created memorial statues and plaques.
As a matter of fact, any bronze plaque
you see at the University of Memphis or
several places around town could very
well be George’s handy work.
The Crone’s love to travel, led
them to Great Britian, Germany, Italy,
Spain, Alaska. They even sailed on the
final voyage of the Queen Elizabeth
II. They love antiquing, he enjoys
fishing and working in a shop and she
likes gardening, reading and seeing a
Broadway show.
