Betty Kunz moved to Kirby Pines
several months ago, from her previous
home in Memphis. She and her husband,
Robert, were married fifty-two years
before he passed away several years ago.
Betty graduated from Messick
high School in 1947; she worked for
South Central Bell in Customer Service
Accounting Department for 37 years.
Her interests include serving as the
travel planner and navigator when she
and her husband visited more than 40
States. Hawaii is the one place she
would still like to visit. She said that one
of her favorite forms of entertainment
was roller skating from age 11 through
high school; and she remembers driving
her red and white Chevy Bel-Air to meet
Elvis when he lived at Audubon Road.
She couldn’t find anyone to get a picture
of her with Elvis so she left while Elvis
was standing there. Her favorite music
is smooth dance music and Elvis songs.
An interesting fact about Betty is the
time she walked a picket line holding a
sign demanding more benefits from her
employer.
Let’s give a warm welcome to Betty
Kunz as she settles in to our community.
We wish her many years of comfort and
happiness.

John Moore
We are pleased to welcome John N.
Moore to our residential community. He
is a native Memphian, moving to Kirby
from the Terraces at Laurelwood. He
and his wife, Wilma, were married for
55
years; Wilma passed away in 2013.
They have, 3 grandchildren, and 2 great
grandchildren. Before his retirement,
John worked at Buckeye Cotton Oil for
25
years and Schlitz Brewery for 12
years.
Italy is the country that has beckoned
John over the years and he’s visited there
many times. It is not surprising, since
he is “half-Italian”, Italian music is
his favorite and his radio is most often
tuned to Italian operatic singing. Foreign
travel also was a major interest; and he
includes Russia, Germany, France, and
England, among the countries visited.
In retirement, John has sharpened
his skills in growing plants and flowers.
This talent will hold him in good stead
with other Kirby Pines growers. If he
hasn’t yet met this group, a member
should seek him out to alert him on
how he can contribute to their mutual
interests.
John has recently established his
new home in the Kirby Pines Retirement
Community. We wish him all the best
as he settles in and makes new friends.
Welcome, John.
Patricia Watson
Kirby Pines is pleased to welcome
Patricia Watson as a new member of our
community. Patricia’s interests include
music, with folkmusic being her favorite
genre, cooking, and decorating. Patricia
and her husband, Frank, traveled to
Florida, New Orleans, Texas, Georgia,
and North Carolina. They also traveled
to the extraordinary U.S. western
mountainous regions. Australia is the
one place she would still like to visit
Patricia graduated from Lambuth
College and Memphis State U. with a
BA Degree in English and Literature.
She worked for 24 years as a Partner
in their real estate firm Watson &
Associates, Inc. Her husband, Frank,
also graduated from Lambuth College
and Memphis State U., earning BA and
MAdegrees in Religion and Philosophy,
and Education. Frank was a teacher for
eight years. Patricia and Frank were
married 28 years; Frank passed away
late December 2013.
Moving to a new home can be a bit
overwhelming, but Patricia is learning
the kindness of “strangers” at Kirby
Pines very quickly. We’re glad you’re
here, Patricia, and welcome home!
