Michael O’Neal and Julianne Potter

were romantically involved in college,

and after breaking up, they have

managed to remain close friends. For

years, Julianne and Michael have had

a pledge that if both were single when

they turned 28, they would get married.

Shortly before her 28th birthday,

Julianne is lamenting the sad state of

her love life when she gets a call from

Michael, who announces that he has

important news. Julianne is convinced

that Michael is going to ask her to marry

him, and she is crestfallen when he

announces that he’s engaged to Kimmy

Wallace. Kimmy seems like the perfect

woman for Michael; she’s sweet, pretty,

bright, and adores Michael, and her

wealthy family is just as fond of him

as she is. But now that Julianne has

realized how much she loves Michael,

she’s not about to give him up without

a fight -- and isn’t afraid to fight dirty.

An Episcopal Bishop, Henry

Brougham, has been working for

months on the plans for an elaborate

new cathedral which he hopes will

be paid for primarily by a wealthy,

stubborn widow. He is losing sight

of his family and of why he became

a churchman in the first place. Enter

Dudley, an angel sent to help him.

Dudley does help everyone he meets,

but not necessarily in the way they

would have preferred. With the

exception of Henry, everyone loves

him, but Henry begins to believe that

Dudley is there to replace him, both

at work and in his family’s affections,

as Christmas approaches.

years later, having lost each other that

night, both are engaged to be married.

Still, neither can shake the need to give

fate one last chance to reunite them. Jon

enlists the help of his best man to track

down the girl he can’t forget starting

at the store where they met. Sara asks

her new age musician fiance for a break

before the wedding and, with her best

friend in tow, flies from California to

New York hoping destiny will bring her

soulmate back. Near-misses and classic

Shakespearean confusion bring the two

close to meeting a number of times but

fate will have the final word on whether

it was meant to be.

Over the years, Amy and Edith grow

to become the best of friends, though

everything changes when a trio of

visitors arrive to attend the annual

Greens Cup horse race and Beatrice

Hamilton enlists Edith’s help in

choosing a marriageable suitor for her

cousin. When the bachelors show signs

of affection for Edith instead of Ida,

the rising tensions force the privileged

orphan to consider her true status

among the upper class.
