lifetime spent in the ring. The most
important lesson he teaches his boxers
is the one that rules life: above all,
always protect yourself. In the wake
of a painful estrangement from his
daughter, Frankie has been unwilling
to let himself get close to anyone for a
very long time. His only friend, Scrap,
an ex-boxer who looks after Frankie’s
gym, knows that beneath his gruff
exterior is a man who has been seeking,
for the past 25 years, the forgiveness
that somehow continues to elude him.

younger relatives Miles and Maizy with
his hefty cooking and his new way of
doing the laundry. His carefree style
does not impress everyone though

especially his rebellious teenage
niece, Tia, and his impatient girlfriend,
Chanice. With a little bit of luck and
a lot of love, Uncle Buck manages to
surprise everyone in this heartwarming
family comedy.

sideshow barker Flo Ziegfeld turns the
tables on his more successful neighbor
Billings, and steals his girlfriend to boot.
This pattern is repeated throughout their
lives, as Ziegfeld makes and loses many
fortunes putting on ever bigger, more
spectacular shows (sections of which
appear in the film). French revue star
Anna Held becomes his first wife, but
it’s not easy being married to the man
who “glorified the American girl.” Late
in life, now married to Billie Burke, he
seems to be all washed up, but...

In the late 20’s, the talkative newly
graduated in pharmacy and aspirant
piano player Eddy Duchin comes from
Boston to New York expecting to play
with the orchestra of Leo Reisman at
fancy New York’s Central Park Casino.
However he had misunderstood the
invitation of the maestro and while
leaving the place, he meets the wealthy
socialite Marjorie Oelrichs that asks
Leo Reisman to give a chance to
Eddy. He plays in the intermission and
becomes a successful piano showman.
Two years later, Marjorie and Eddy get
married and in the Christmas, Marjorie
has a baby, Peter, but she dies after the
delivery. Eddy rejects Peter blaming
him for the death of Marjorie and only
five years later he meets his son. With
the World War II, Eddy Duchin breaks
up his band and enlists to fight in the
war. With the end of the war, Eddy
returns to New York with the intention
of getting closer to Peter but he sees the
boy connected to his friend Chiquita.
When Eddy discovers that he has a
terminal disease, he proposes Chiquita
and they get married.

Birthday Concert
with Matt Barber
Matt Barber’s non-stop touring sched-
ule has taken him from Branson to L.A,
New York and Canada – performing
nearly 300 concerts per year in 48 states
since 2005.With an uplifting Easy Lis-
tening style reminiscent of Barry Ma-
nilow and Michael Buble, Matt delivers
songs from yesterday and today with a
sincere, meaningful approach. Barber’s
passion for music and touching hearts
comes through in every song. Heavily
influenced by artists such as Andy Wil-
liams, Barry Manilow, Frankie Valli
and various other crooners, Matt has
performed for festivals, wineries, ball-
rooms, restaurants, and upscale retire-
ment communities. Join us for the Matt
Barber Experience at 6:30 p.m. in The
Performing Arts Center as we celebrate
all of our July birthdays!

sociation Meeting with special guest
speakers Ed Brundick and Lane Car-
rick of Duncan Williams on Thursday
the 11th at 2:00 p.m. in The Performing
Arts Center as they talk about how to
prepare for sustaining retirement assets.

Music in The Lobby with
Gail Mathewson
Gail Mathewson and Sue Frazier per-
formed special music in church as chil-
dren and were part of a gospel trio called
The Harmonettes”, who performed
with groups like the Blackwood Broth-
ers. As teenagers they were singers in
‘60’
s rock ‘n roll and country garage
bands. In 1965 they won third place in
the Mid-South Youth Talent Contest.
Both are members of the Germantown
Chorus, perform in Community The-
atre Broadway Musical Productions
and sing on recordings. Most recently,
three other sisters have joined in the
music, and all five sisters formed an-
other singing g oup called “Harmony”.
The first perfor ance of “Harmony”
was at the American Cance Society
Relay for Life Event in Lexingt n, TN
in June of 2012. They sing Oldies from
1940’
s-70’s with recorded musical ac-
companiment and professional amplifi-
cation. The “Old es” from 1940’s-70’s
include Big Band, Jazz, Country, Rock
n Roll, and Gospel. They will be per-
forming for us at 6:00 p.m. in th Lobby.

Mammogram
The mobile mammogram bus from
Baptist will be here on Monday the 15th
from 8:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. They will
be parked near the C/D entrance. Stop
by the Clinic to pick up your paperwork
and to reserve a time for the procedure
by Thursday the 11th.

AARP Driver Safety
Course
AARP will present the “55 Alive Driver
Safety Program” on July 15th and 16th.
The two-day program is an instruction-
al defensive driving course for anyone
55
years old and up. Classes are 8:30
a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Monday and Tues-
day in The Large Card Room. Success-
ful completion entitles participants to a
discount on their auto insurance premi-
ums for three years. There is no driv-
ing component or written exam. The
cost is $12 for AARP members and
$14 for non-members. Call Activities at

Moves
This month’s Smart Moves topic is
Understanding Parkinson’s Disease.”
Parkinson’s Disease affects the way you
move and occurs when certain nerve
cells in the brain don’t produce enough
dopamine. In the United States, 50,000-
60,000
new cases of PD are diagnosed
each year, adding to the one million
people who currently have PD. Smart
Moves begins at 9:45 a.m. immediately
following Exercise.
