John and Jackie Gunther met at
North Shore Baptist Church in Chicago,
Illinois where they were members for
55
years.
They were married in 1957. Their
three children, seven grandchildren, two
step grandsons and two great grandsons
bring them much pride and joy.
John was a graphic designer,
winning many awards and Jackie was
an educational support person for 33
years. They both are very creative, even
handcrafting greeting cards, with John
doing the artwork and Jackie writing
the verses.
Living in the Chicago area, they
both were, and, still are fans of the
Cubs and the Bears. John was a Boy
Scout leader and loved to go boating
and bowling. Jackie enjoys reading and
indulges in various arts and crafts. She
is looking forward to riding her bike
and would love to see the Memphis
Symphony, after holding season tickets
in Chicago for years.

John & Jacquelin Gunther
Betty (Pat) Redden
Malvin & Jean Mauney
Pat Redden was born in Pittsburgh,
Pennsylvania and was a secretary in the
Navy Waves during and after World
War II.
She met her late husband George
on a train in Florida and went on to be
a longtime homemaker, raising their
two children, Brock and Linda. She
has three grandaughters and one great
grandson, who are all very important in
her life.
She is a longtime member of
Christ United Methodist Church and
has always lived by the lesson of her
parents, to be kind to others.
She enjoys painting and playing
bridge, but her passion is ballroom
dancing, which she tries to do as often
as she can.
She loves spaghetti and salads and
always cooked full meals for herself
every night, but is more than happy to
be losing that job for now!
Mal and Jean Mauney have three
daughters and eight grandchildren, and
feel home and family are foundations
for life.
Mal was a professional baseball
umpire in the minor leagues and
after being called blind so often by
unhappy spectators, he decided to go
to optometry school to see if he really
was! He had a very successful career as
a doctor of optometry, but also taught
biology in Vienna and Austria, taught
Spanish at University of Memphis, and
set up churches and school programs
in Mexico. Jean was a homemaker and
worked as a receptionist at Memphis
Funeral Home for 20 years and was
Employee of the Year in 1997.
They both like to read and travel
and have done so extensively, but also
enjoy seeing plays, musical programs
and lectures. Apparently Mal’s mother
has the ultimate recipe for spaghetti and
meatballs, so Italian food is high on
their list of favorites!
