Al & Flicky Hartman If our April new residents look familiar, they were pictured on the cover of the February Pinecone. They moved to Kirby Pines from their former home in Germantown, Tennessee and they already have many friends here from their “Lamplighter Sunday School” class. Married for 62 years, the Hartmans are the proud parents of two sons and the loving grandparents of five grandsons. A graduate of Rice University, Al also played quarterback on the football team. A highlight of his football career was playing in the Sugar Bowl. After graduation he had a long career in sales. Flicky graduated from the University of Texas and served as the business manager of Christ Methodist Day School for 25 years. A veteran, Al was in the United States Navy earning the rank of Quarter Master. During the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, Al’s ship was on active duty in Cuba. The Hartmans have enjoyed many U.S. cross country trips as well as spending summers in Colorado. Their foreign destinations include Germany, Switzerland and Austria. For their 40th wedding anniversary, they traveled to Scotland, England and Italy with two other couples. To stay active, Al enjoys sports, golf and Bridge while Flicky plays Mah Jongg and reads. After only a short time living at Kirby Pines, Al and Flicky have joined several life enhancement activities and made new friends.
