Meet with all of our activity groups & learn about how you can join in on all of the fun there is to be had here at Kirby Pines! Aug 14: Music: Tim Johnson The King is in the building just in time to celebrate Elvis week! Come out and enjoy our favorite Elvis impersonator, Tim John- son! show starts at 6:00 pm in the PAC! This is a performance you don’t want to miss! Aug 16: Birthday Day Attention birthday folks! We want to celebrate YOUwith a very special day in the dining room! Whether you are celebrating your birthday, joining friends or plan on dining at your usual table, we invite you to dress up & enjoy. For those celebrating a birthday, be sure to RSVP with Kayla Holland by returning your personalized invitation you received. For everyone else, make sure you fill out on RSVP form that can be found at the front desk. Aug 17: Tech Time Bring your phones, tablets, laptop, whatev- er issue you have he will be glad to help. Al- len Childress will be coming the 3rd Mon- day of August at 10:30 am in the Sunroom. Aug 18: Watermelon Seed Spitting Contest What is more refreshing than an ice-cold watermelon on a hot day? Come and join us for the return of this memorable event at 10:00 am just outside the C/D Hall door. Compete for the seed spitting Champion- ship of 2026! (No dentures were harmed in the 2024/2025 competitions) Aug 19: Caregiver Support Are you caring for a loved one? Our sup- port group meets the 3rd Wednesday of ev- ery month in the Small Card Room at 10:00 am. We find support as well as comforting suggestions for unique problems. Caregiv- ing is very difficult. Come be a part of our group. Aug 20: Mike Ellicott Presents D-Day On June 6, 1944, over 156,000 soldiers from eight nations landed by sea & air on the Normandy Coast of France to begin the liberation of Nazi occupied Europe. Oper- ation OVERLORD, the largest amphibious assault in history, led to the collapse of the Nazi government eleven months later. Join us at 3:00 pm, on August 20th in the PAC to hear Retired Army Colonel & experienced Normandy battlefield guide Mike Ellicott tell the story of the D-Day planning chal- lenges, the events as they unfolded, & the heroic, colorful, and often unsung, heroes involved. He will also discuss his upcoming tour of Normandy& the Seine River. Aug 21: Lunch Bunch: Villa Castrioti The Lunch Bunch is going to Villa Castrio- ti in Lakeland, TN on Friday, August 21st. What began in the mid-1980s as a humble New York-style pizza stand has evolved into a refined sanctuary for authentic Ital- ian cuisine. From our family’s heritage in NYC to our flagship locations in Memphis and Nashville, Villa Castrioti remains a tes- tament to the art of the table The transpor- tation fee is $5. Lobby time is at 10:30 am. Don’t forget your lunch money! Aug 21: Sock Hop Dance Join us in the PAC for our “Sock Hop”. Come dressed in your leather jackets, poo- dle skirts, bobby shoes, & cat eyeglasses! The Memphis Knights will be perform- ing all your favorites from the 50’s & 60’s. Doors open at 6:00 pm with desserts avail- able in the LCR throughout the dance. This is a night you don’t want to miss. Aug 23: Music: Marilynn Garzione Please join us in the Lobby at 1:00 pm to enjoy a performance by our very own Mar- ilynn Garzione. This is an afternoon you don’t want to miss. Aug 25: Book Baggers Calling all Baldacci fans along with all book lovers. This month we will be discussing “Wish You Well” by one of our favorite au- thors. This book is not his usual fiction of intrigue but is equally interesting. As usual we will begin promptly at 9:30 am in the chapel. We will also be showing the movie on Monday, August 24 at 1:30 pm & 6:30 pm. You will enjoy the movie as well as the meeting. All are welcome! Aug 25: Best Wishes Boutique Best Wishes Boutique is back! Come see their fall line of clothing & accessories. The boutique will be open from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm outside of the PAC. Aug 25: Girls’ Night Out Come join the “girls” for an evening of pop- corn & a great movie, “Mary Poppins”. It is sure to be a fun night for everyone. Show- time is at 6:15 pm. Don’t be late! Aug 27: Crosstown Arts & Brewery Join the Travelers for an afternoon at the Crosstown Concourse. There are so many things to do. We will stroll through the different featured art exhibits, stop by the wellness center, & much more. After we explore the concourse, we will enjoy lunch at Crosstown Brewery. Transportation fee is $5. Lobby time is 11:00 am. Don’t forget your lunch money! Aug 28: Peter Jones: Iceland and Greenland Peter Jones will give a PowerPoint presen- tation on Iceland & Greenland at 1:00 pm on Friday, August 28th in the PAC. Explore the capital city Reykjavik, visit the Blue La- goon, numerous waterfalls, & geysers. Fly to Greenland and visit Kulusuk & Ammas- salik Islands. Join the group at 1:00 pm in the PAC or watch on in house TV for this informative presentation. Aug 28: Entertainers Chorus Join the Entertainers Chorus as they cel- ebrate summer with music representing “THE SCENES OF SUMMER.” Vocal se- lections, clarinet instrumentals by Jim Gholson, & the opportunity to dance are planned. Learn the steps to “Proud Mary” & join the Kirby Pines Line Dancers as they join in the fun. PACK THE PAC at 6:30 pm for this wonderful production we have in store.
