The Pinecone | August 2026 • 3 • Get to know Kirby Pines' Stephanie and Stormy (20 year old Russian Blue cat) moved to Kirby Pines this summer. It was only fitting for Stephanie to choose to move to Kirby Pines park like campus from her midtown home in the shadows of Overton Park. Born in Greenwood, Mississippi, Stephanie and her late husband, Roy, were married for 53 years. They had two children, Holly and Stephen, and five grandchildren. After attending Sweet Briar College in Virginia, Stephanie graduated from Ole Miss with a degree in English. She had a career as a children’s photographer and after the age of 50 launched an extensive career as an artist. Stephanie’s hobbies and interests include music, art, photography, reading, movies and traveling. Her travels include Europe, The Caribbean, throughout the U.S.A. and Mexico. To stay active, she likes to go out to eat, attending movies at the theater, seeing a concert and taking a walk. We’ll enjoy hearing about her road trip fromMississippi to San Francisco after graduating from high school with her best friend and her first trip to Italy after taking a medieval art class. You will want to meet Stephanie, her many travels and interests make her a good fit for our Kirby community. Her friends say she is fun loving, savvy, kind, nice, and creative. Welcome to Kirby Pines Stephanie! Stephanie Harrover Sandy Brent We are pleased to welcome Sandy Brent from her previous home in Olive Branch, Mississippi. She was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. She and her late husband, Gerry, were married for 68 years and had a daughter and two grandsons, who are both married. A graduate of The University of Florida with degrees in history and a masters in education, Sandy had a 40 year career as a teacher and high school counselor in the various places they called home. Sandy and Gerry lived in 14 different duty stations when he was serving in the U.S. Navy. They lived in Japan, San Diego, California, traveled to Europe multiple times, and they also traveled throughout the U.S.A. Sewing, movies, church work, genealogy, music, and dancing are a few of Sandy’s interests and hobbies. She started collecting stamps when she was nine years old and she has a sea shell collection. Since moving to Kirby, Sandy has joined the gardening and exercise groups. Sounds like a Kirby fit! Sandy’s friends would describe her as intelligent, kind and introverted. She is most proud of her daughter, who is an attorney, and being able to take care of her family in Mississippi is something that means a lot to her.
