Sylvia Statham
A retired Nurse born in McComb,
MS., Sylvia comes to Kirby Pines from
her previous home in Germantown. She
received her BS Degree in Nursing from
UT College of Nursing. She married her
childhood sweetheart, Paul Statham, and
worked as a Registered Nurse to put him
through medical school. Paul served in
the Air Force as a Flight Surgeon and,
for 35 years, was a Psychiatrist at the VA
Hospital. Married 42 years, Paul passed
away in 2000. They had 1 son and 3
grandsons.
This new resident has many and
varied interests and talents. In her early
adult years, Sylvia’s interests included
former private pilot and plane owner;
scuba diving; riding Mo-Peds; and
bungee jumping. She now knits with her
church group, making hats for downtown
missions for the homeless; lap robes
for the Alzheimer Center; baby hats
and blankets; and shawls for Methodist
Hospice patients. Her needlework interest
is smocking heirloom wedding garters
and baby bonnets. Special memorabilia
include her grandmother’s pipe organ and
grandfather’s porch swing. Sylvia was
a Church soloist, Garden Club member,
and Flower Show Judge.
To our Kirby Pines Community,
Sylvia Statham brings her professional
credentials in the health care field, a host
of varied talents, and expectations of
enjoying all that’s offered to our residents.
We are pleased that she has joined us and
wish her all good things for the future.
Shelton & Sydney Wagner
Shelton and Sydney Wagner join us
from their prior residence in Memphis.
Married for 52+ years, they have a son

Shelton’s professional training
was as a structural steel draftsman,
graduating from the William R.

For the next 40 years, he was Owner
and President of Shelton A. Wagner
Structural Steel Drafting; and for the
past 8 years, also worked for his son,
Allen, at Wagner General Contractors.
Sydney received her professional
education at the Memphis School of
Commerce. She was employed for 6
years at the American Surety Company,
and 40 subsequent years as bookkeeper
for Shelton A. Wagner Structural Steel
Drafting.
They fondly recall trips to Disney
World and ski trips in Utah with their
family. They also traveled toAlaskawith
3
other couples in 2 RV’s; and enjoyed
a 3-week trip to Europe with another
couple (with no advance reservations)
and the fun they had finding lodging
before bedtime. Shelton enjoys
model airplane engines, guns, knives,
and Billy Vaughn music. Sydney’s
interests include Emile Pandolfi music,
reading, and cooking – she published a
cookbook in 2010 that featured many of
her signature dishes.
