Happy New Year Everyone! Each
year seems to get here quicker, with
little difference from the previous year.
However, 2014 will not be one of those
years. Before I begin to write about
improvements made in 2013, let me
thank each of you for another wonderful
year of service at Kirby Pines.
In 2013 we saw an increase in one of
Kirby’s newest services that continued
climbing each month – Easy Connect.
This service provides residents and
families across the world the ability
to connect face to face using virtual
technology, making it seem that they are
right there in the same roomwith you.We
also installed all new audio equipment in
the PAC and ordered all new equipment
for the movie theater which should be
installed early this year.
During the first part of the year, we
took time to honor our many volunteers
who again surpassed the previous year’s
total number of volunteer hours. These
hours should once again surpass the
previous year’s total with the expanded
hours and move of the Blossom Shop to
the second floor of the community.
In early summerKirbyPineswas once
again named the area’s Best Retirement
Community. An honor bestowed upon
Kirby for eight consecutive years. No
other retirement community in our tri-
state area has been able to earn this public
recognition; and with the unique event
Cheryl created having a food truck and
Ringing in the New
a t K i r b y P i n e s
hot air balloon available for residents to
ride in early fall, we should be able to
hold on to our top spot in 2014, too!
In September, we celebrated our 30th
Anniversary. The ceremonies and parties
made this anniversary celebration truly
a special two weeks to remember. In
November, we honored Kirby residents
who served in the arm services with full
page ads in the Commercial Appeal.
Renovations to improve the quality
of life for residents in each of our
healthcare settings continued throughout
year. In the Manor with the installation
of electronic medical record kiosks, we
went totally Wi-Fi. In the Villa, major
renovations were completed for twenty
of the suites, and a complete renovation
of all public spaces is well on its way
now.
As we move into the year 2014, I
look forward to beginning my twelfth
year of service to each of you and the
community. May we all be blessed
throughout the year ahead.

Here’s to a Happy ANDHealthy New Year!
The New Year is a time to look back
at the past, but even more so, to embrace
the future.
It gives us the ability to forget about
the things that did not go so well the
previous year, and vow to make some
changes that may positively effect our
health or well-being for the year to come.
Some of the the “resolutions” most
people make are to eat better, get more
sleep and to start exercising more. So
this month our cover will hopefully
encourage the latter - Exercise More!
Kirby residents, Laura Parrott and
Pat Mitchell got their blood pumping
early at Mary Hand’s Monday morning
Water Aerobics Class, and allowed us to
splash about with them in order to show
one of many options offered to help get
fit and healthy in 2014.
January 13th thru March 10th gets us
“Walking Across America” once again,
which is a great way to get used to using
your pedomoters. Plus we will be rolling
out our “Welcome to Wellness” program
in the coming months with contests and
prizes to keep everyone motivated!
