Bob and Joy Wernet are from
Memphis and have been married 48
years. Their family consists of 3 children
and a granddaughter.
Bob graduated from Purdue in
1951
with a degree in Aeronautical
Engineering, followed by a Law Degree
fromMemphis Southern Law in 1956. He
served as Owner/President of the Credit
Adjustment Service, Inc., Memphis, a
collection service for Physicians and
Hospitals. He was also active in the
Trade Association at both the State and
National levels; co-authoring the Fair
Debt and Collection Practice Act of
Tennessee during Governor Winfield
Dunn’s Administration. For close to 40
years, Bob also was a Board member of
the Boys and Girls Club of Memphis.
Joy attended Murray U. and
graduated from Bethel U. in 1967 with a
degree in Business Administration. Her
interest in business began at age 16 when
she kept the books for a local department
store and her professional career spanned
the ensuing 50 years. Joy also served
as Secretary/Treasurer of the Credit
Adjustment Service, Inc.
Joy is an active volunteer, serving 13
years as Assistant Treasurer of the
AmericanHeartAssociation’s Gala Board
and has worked with mentally challenged
children and adults.

Bob & Joy Wernet
Dan & Judy Moffett
Married 62 years, Dan and Judy
Moffett came to Kirby Pines from their
previous residence in Memphis. They
have 3 children and 5 grandchildren. Judy
was awarded a BS Degree in Education
from Memphis State College and served
as Director, St. Luke’s Day School for
27
years. Dan received a BS Degree in
Chemistry from Memphis State College
and a MA Degree in Analytic Chemistry
fromWashington U. in St. Louis, MO. He
was employed for 27 years as Laboratory
Manager for A&L Laboratory.
Dan and Judy have traveled to
England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland,
Russia, China, Aruba, Hawaii, Nova
Scotia, Alaska, Canada, and most of the
U.S. Dan’s hobbies include fly fishing, fly
tying, computer, stained glass, bridge, and
games. Reading, travel, and board games
are preferred by Judy. Favorite music for
both includes classical, country-western,
and 40’s-50’s tunes. When Judy was 17
years old she was selected to play an
old French Horn with the all-male Navy
band on their visit to Memphis. A fond
memory for Judy is her modeling in a
fashion show when she was 78 years old.
For Dan, a fond memory is his inclusion
inAll Memphis Football in 1947, while at
Christian Brothers High School (CBHS).
The Moffetts have much to offer that
can enrich the Kirby Pines Retirement
Community. We are pleased they have
joined us.
Byron Sowers, Jr.
Born in Port Arthur, TX, Byron
comes to Kirby Pines from his
previous residence in Memphis. A life-
long bachelor, he received Associate
Degrees from both Joliet Junior College
and DeVry University. His professional
career centered on electronics, working
as a Special Services Engineer for the
SunBeam Corporation and Phillips
Control, testing and calibrating
all equipment to meet the Federal
Government “UL” standards.
One of his most meaningful life
events was building his own home on
the Kankakee River in Illinois. Honesty
was the most valuable approach to life,
learned from his parents. His interests
include astrology, gadget inventions,
live theater, and all types of music.
Love of Christmas lights and clocks are
high on his list, as well. He has fond
memories of a Wild West Trip that he
took with his brother; and Alaska is the
one place he would like to visit. Byron
wants to be remembered as having an
easy nature and positive attitude.
