January 2015
A Good
Resolut ion Any Time Of The Year
Exercise!
Make your New Year’s resolution to include joining the Walk across America
Program that Oasis is offering this month. Participants may begin registering January
5, 2013.
This 8 week program will run from January 12 through March 9. We will keep
track of how many miles each participant walks, or completes on the Nu-Step or
treadmill walking on their own time schedule. If you use your pedometer, on average,
2000
steps equals one mile. Everyone’s mileage will be kept up individually and
as a group total to see how far we can walk; pointing out interesting landmarks
along the way. Last year as a group we walked 2125 miles
from the Golden Gate Bridge to the front door of Kirby
Pines. This year we will start in Maine and travel the old US
Highway 1 which will take us to every major city on the East
Coast. If we have enough participants, we could make it
all the way to Key West, Florida. Make plans to join our Walk
across America Program in 2015. We’ll have helpful tips each
week, awards and surprises for everyone, as well as the reward of
beginning and continuing a great exercise habit of walking for
strength and endurance. We will have weekly door prizes and
a Grand Prize at the end for the most miles traveled.

Walk Across America!
Happy New Year! Have you been missing your favorite exercise
class or your usual 30 minutes on the Nustep? Well, we’ve been
missing you. The Oasis is a great place to begin your New
Year’s resolution to feel better. Kirby Pines offers many
opportunities to improve strength, endurance, balance and
cardio-vascular health. Our four exercise classes supported
by the Arthritis Foundation include Tai Chi, Arthritis Exercise
(
Sit and Stand), Water Aerobics, and Walking with Ease (a six
week class that will be offered in the spring). These classes are
tailored to your needs and having arthritis is not a requirement
to take a class. A resident-led class that has been together for
years meets three times a week in the PAC.
If you are not interested in group exercise, Kirby Pines has an
amazing variety of equipment for a small gym to exercise upper
body, lower body and improve cardiovascular functions.
The Oasis is open 24 hours / 7days a
week.
Exercise is a key to a
strong and healthy lifestyle
boosting energy levels, lifting spirits,
improving balance, enhancing immune
system and aiding weight loss programs.
With such a variety of exercise
options, how could you resist
resolving to visit the Oasis more
often in 2015? Mary Hand will be
available to assist you in the Oasis.
