Traditionally, September marks the
beginning of the school year. However,
for many across the country the school
year now begins in August. For the
retired educators living at Kirby Pines,
now is a time to reflect back on the years
of service given to so many students.
For others, September signifies the end
of summer and the last national holiday
(
Labor Day) until Thanksgiving. I can
remember growing up and spending
several Labor Day weekends camping
in the Texas Hill Country. September
for Kirby Pines is especially significant,
because it is the month we celebrate our
anniversary.
Thirty-one years of service to older
adults is truly a feat that could not
have happened without the support of
residents and their families, employees,
and our Board of Directors. These
individuals make up the team that
allows Kirby Pines to rank among the
largest and most successful life care
retirement communities in the country,
September means tradition
a t K i r b y P i n e s
as well as to continuously be voted the
Memphis Most!
To celebrate this thirty-first
anniversary, much work and effort has
been put into this year’s Lighting of the
Lake ceremony. Each year a theme and
color is selected, and this year the theme
is Praise, and the color is Violet. Both
the theme and color are certain to add a
feeling of warmth within our hearts and
a smile to everyone’s face. So make
plans now to join us for this celebration,
for the food and company that follows
the event, and most importantly for
the start of another great year at Kirby
Pines Retirement Community.

Viola Watkins moved to Kirby Pines in 2001, after attending a luncheon,
presented by Jeff Minton, one of our Life Care Advisors. The luncheon was set up
in a way that anyone with questions or concerns about Kirby Pines or Life Care,
would have their queries met immediately to put their minds at ease. Ms. Watkins
signed up the very next day and has been a happy Kirby resident ever since.
This is what Life Care is all about, putting families minds at ease. Viola’s son,
Bill Watkins, of Watkins Uiberall, PLLC, a local accounting and advisory firm,
could not be more pleased with their decision to move his mother to Kirby Pines.
He knows she is well taken care of now, and because they chose Life Care, she will
also be taken care of for the rest of her life, providing both security and financial
peace of mind.
Over the last 13 years, Viola has very much enjoyed living at Kirby. She admits
her social calendar has slowed down a bit, at 92, despite the variety of activities
offered each month. When it comes to what she has loved the most about making
Kirby her home, she says, “They have the nicest people around”......
