Our theme this year is “Our Nation Under God” and the col- ors are Red, White, & Blue. The festivities will begin at 5:00 pm by Lake Latimer. We will then adjourn to the Lobby and Dining Room for a reception featuring music by Violinist Ariel Subbers. Sep 12 & 26: Trivia Group All residents are welcome to attend this noncompetitive activity, and are encour- aged to participate, or just listen and en- joy. The THEME for September is Food & Drink. However, Trivia questions can be presented on any topic. Join us at 6:15 pm in the ante room. Sep 13: Travelers: Germantown Festival Join us for the 53rd Annual Germantown Festival. A Festival of Arts and crafts, children’s activities, rides and games, live stage entertainment, car exhibits, commu- nity displays, the Running of the Weenies Dachshund race and festival foods for all tastes. Lobby time is 12:30 pm. Transpor- tation fee is $5. Don’t forget your lunch money. Sep 13: Hymn Sing with Leon Please Join us in the Chapel for a resident led Hymn singing with Mr. Leon Sander- son. We will begin at 4:00 pm. Sep 14: Poetry & Writing Club The Poetry & Creative Writing Club meets on the 2nd Monday of September at 9:30 am in the A&C Studio. This month’s prompt “Write about someone who inspires you.” Be sure to check our stories in the Pine- cone. They are sure to entertain & get your creativity flowing. Sep 15: Mike Ellicott: 9/11 Ordinary Americans on an Extraordinary Day. On September 11, 2001, Al Qaeda ter- rorists hijacked four commercial airliners, turning them into weapons. A total of 2,977 citizens from 85 countries lost their lives in the attacks on New York’s World Trade Center and the Pentagon, and in a field near Shanksville, PA. Thousands of other ordinary Americans demonstrated extraor- dinary courage and resourcefulness on that day. Join us in the PAC on September 15th, at 3:00 pm, to hear their story. Sep 16 & 17: Flu Shots The Rx Shoppe will be returning to admin- ister Flu & Pneumococcal Vaccines to our Independent Living Residents. Shots will be available in the Large Card Room from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm on Wednesday, Septem- ber 16th, & 9:00 am – 12:00 pm on Thurs- day, September 17th. No appointment is necessary. Sep 16: Caregiver Support Are you caring for a loved one? Our sup- port group meets on the 3rd Wednesday of every month in the Ante Room at 10:00 am. We find support as well as comforting sug- gestions for unique problems. Caregiving can be very challenging. Come be a part of our group. Sep 17: Travelers: Coach Kim’s Studio Join the Travelers to Coach Kim’s new stu- dio. Of course, Kim will be there to show everyone around & will be joining us after for lunch at Tavern 018. Coach Kim has made her very own T-shirts for all of us at- tending this outing with her. Lobby time will be at 11:30 am. Sign up in Resident Programs. Sep 23: Travelers: Swingtime Explosion Join the Travelers for the return of, Swing- time Explosion Big Band to the Concert Series at Kroc Center Memphis! Swingtime Explosion Big Band is a 17-piece big band filled with Memphis musicians. Including 5 saxophones, 4 trombones, 4 trumpets and a 4-piece rhythm section. Swingtime Explo- sion treats audiences to Swing, Jazz, Rock, Pop, Latin, and Blues - while including a wide variety of vocal arrangements featur- ing local performers.
