Thomas and JoAnn Chapman moved to
Kirby Pines from their prior residence
in Cordova. Thomas was born in
Memphis, TN; JoAnn was born in
Rector, AR. They have been married 62
years and have a son.
Thomas completed two years of college
before joining the D. Canale Beverage
Company as Supervisor of Sales. He
stayed with this employer for 31 years.
Thomas’ most interesting event was his
stint in the U.S. Marine Corps. In 1962,
The American College of Radiology
certified JoAnn as a member of the
American Registry of Radiological
Technologists. She had a 37 year
career as Chief of Technology Therapy
at Methodist Hospital and Campbell
Clinic. For JoAnn, her most interesting
event was the house Thomas bought her
for her birthday, for which she designed
and supervised construction of the
house’s 15 windows, 2 sets of French
doors, large patio, and multi-purpose
room.
The Chapmans’ love of travel took
them to 20 States, Puerto Rico, and the
Bahamas. Leisure time interests include
movies, landscaping, fishing, sewing,
cooking, and interior decorating.
The Chapmans’ variety of interests and
talents will add immeasurably to the
Kirby Pines community.

Martha Pruett
Martha Pike Pruett was born in
Shreveport, LA and she called it
home for 96 years. She married James
Pruett in 1938 and they have a son, 3
grandchildren and 4 great grands. Mr.
Pruett passed away in 1992.
James Pruett started working with the
Shreveport Trolley Company when he
was 18 years old; Martha was 15 at that
time. Martin Pike, Martha’s father, was
James’ boss. Five years after he began
working for the Trolley Company, he
and Martha married. Martha worked as
Manager of the Caddo Parish School
Food Service. Two accomplishments of
which she is most proud are raising a
not-always cooperative son; and going
back to work when she was in her 40s
because her husband lost his job when
the Shreveport Trolley Company shut
down. Among the things she learned
from her parents was always be honest;
poor folks need insurance; and stay in
church.
For entertainment, Martha likes to play
bridge, dominoes, and board games.
Let’s give Martha a warm welcome
to our community. She wants to be
remembered as someone who has
decided to be happy and who works
to make that happen. Kirby Pines is
fortunate to have Martha as a new
resident.
Carolyn Head
Carolyn was born in Memphis and lived
on Hayne Rd. prior to moving to Kirby
Pines. She and her husband, Clyde
Head, were married 62 years. She has
4
children, 6 grandchildren, and 7 great
grands. Carolyn attended Memphis
State College, graduating in 1950 with
an Associate of Arts Degree. While in
college, Carolyn did missionary work
with children in East Tennessee; she
also was a Spelling Bee Champion in
the seventh grade.
Carolyn was a homemaker and a
preschool teacher. Frequent visits from
her large family ranks as her #1 favorite
pastime. In quiet times, Carolyn works
word puzzles. Most of her travels
were when her children were growing
up. They remember the education that
came from their trips to all of the major
cities east of the Mississippi River. She
wrote a book about her life so that her
family will always remember the “good
ole days”.
Carolyn enjoys living at Kirby Pines and
especially enjoys the variety of musical
programs available to the residents.
Kirby Pines residents welcome
Carolyn Head. We look forward to her
contributing her talents and efforts to
enhance our community.
