All New Resident bios are written by Jacqueline Besteman, Kirby Pines Resident

James (Jim) and Janet Turner came

to us from their previous residence in

Collierville. A blended family married

for 28 years, they have 4 children, 9

grandchildren, and 2 great grands.

Jim has had 2 career tracks. In 1959,

the U.S. Military Academy, West Point,

awarded him a BS Degree in Military

Engineering; in 1964, Stanford awarded

him an MS Degree in Industrial

Engineering. His military service was

with the U.S. Air Force; his final rank,

when discharged, was Lt. Colonel. In

leaving the service, Jim’s career was in

finance.His last position, pre-retirement,

was Vice President of Highland Capital

Management. While Janet did not

attend college, she nevertheless taught

at Community Colleges for several

years with a focus on “Decorating On A

Shoe String” (widely popular course).

She further honed her talent as an expert

seamstress with a 9-year stint in Sales

and Management with Calico Corners –

then, she established her own business,

sewing for the public.

Anew home at Kirby Pines; opportunity

to meet new friends; and many

opportunities to participate in the nearly

endless schedule of helping others –

you can be sure that their talents and

expertise will be put to good use by the

tireless Cheryl Grimes. Jim and Janet,

it’s a pleasure to welcome you to our

Jim & Janet Turner

Bill Cozart

Hailing from Valdosta, Georgia, Bill

Cozart moved to the Kirby Pines

Retirement Community from his

previous home in Collierville, TN. He

and his wife, Bette, were married for 60

years. Their family includes 2 children,

3 grandchildren, and 2 great grands.

Bette passed away in 2015.

In 1978, Memphis State University

awarded Bill a Bachelor of Business

Degree. His professional career was

in the Federal Government, spending

34 years with the Federal Aviation

Administration (FAA) as an Assistant

Sector Manager. He served in the U.S.

Air Force, and was discharged with

the rank of Staff Sergeant. Genealogy

research for the Cozart Family is

a major interest for Bill. Music

preference includes Country music and

bluegrass. In addition to numerous trips

to Washington, D.C. on work-related

issues, Bill also traveled to England and

visited 49 of our 50 States.

Welcome to our residential community,

Bill. You’ll find common ground with

the large number of veterans among us

– they’re a friendly group and will be

glad to include you in story-swapping

about their military days. On behalf of

all of our residents, we are pleased to

have you in our “ranks”.

Bob Field

Born in Scircleville, Indiana, Robert

(Bob) moved to Kirby Pines from his

previous home in Germantown, TN. He

and his wife, Suzanne, were married

for 65 years. Their family consists of 2

children and 4 grandchildren. Suzanne

passed away in 2016.

In1952, PurdueUniversity awardedBob

a BS Degree in Industrial Economics.

Holding the title of International Sales

Manager, he was employed for 22 years

by the Firestone Industrial Products

Company. Bob’s military service was

with the Army Medical Corps, where

as a Medic, his duties included physical

reconditioning of troops and overseeing

exercise programs for Officers’ wives

and disabled children. In addition, he

was a fullback on the champion team

for West Coast Military Bases. His rank

was PFC, but he notes that he held the

rank of Corporal for one night.

Widely traveled, Bob has visited

Jakarta, Singapore, Hong Kong, Tokyo,

Dubai, London, Paris, and Bandar

Abbas, Iran. Bob’s music preference is

piano and violin pieces. He helped form

a church orchestra featuring trumpet,

clarinet, piano, and violin.

TGet to know Bob, who is talented,

affable, open to opportunities to enrich

the programs offered at his new home.

Include him in our several venues that

highlight resident talent. It’s a win-win

situation, for Bob and his new family.
