New resident, Iris Emery, joins us from
her previous residence in Jackson,
TN. She and her husband, William
(Bill) were married 52 years. Before he
passed away in 2011, Bill was retired
military, serving in the Marine Corps
as a Master Gunnery Sergeant. Their
family consists of a son and a daughter
plus 2 granddaughters both of whom,
she tells us, are beautiful and brilliant.
Iris graduated from theUTChattanooga/
Erlanger Hospital in 1956, spending the
next 47 years as a Registered Nurse.
Her final position before retirement
was Director of Quality Assurance at
Entendicare Home Health Agency,
which she and Bill owned.
Iris’ interests include travel, citing Ellis
Island as one of the most interesting
and fantastic places she visited. Other
interests include theater (especially,
Broadway plays), reading, yoga, and
socializing. While living in Jackson,
Iris belonged to the Jackson Book Club;
she volunteered at the Kirkland Cancer
Center, and for Hospice Care. She has
joined the Kirby Pines Book Club. She
sees herself as a very positive, giving
person who hopes to be remembered
as one who valued her friends and
acquaintances in all of the places that
she has lived and worked.
Defining life in a retirement community
as a sedentary existence is not what
Iris is “all about”. Our community
welcomes her with open arms.

to visit.
