Pain management is not something we tend to find
important, but, believe it or not, it is! This month we will
be taking a deeper look into the ways we are able to assess
and treat pain. We will discuss the differences between
chronic and acute pain, while also discussing ways to
treat/deal with both.
Chronic pain is a bit more common; with there being over
50 million cases of chronic pain in the United States, we
do find it extremely vital to spotlight attention in this
area. Chronic pain depletes neurotransmitters such as
norepinephrine and serotonin, which can lead to many
other disorders. If we are able to target the pain that one is
experiencing and address it, that individual is less likely
to suffer from disorders that affect cognitive abilities.
To learn more about chronic and acute pain, and also to
learn some ways to assess and treat both, please join us
on April 13th in the LCR at 10:30am. Allyson Boykin, our
Wellness Coordinator will be presenting this information
to you all. We look forward to seeing each of you there!
